In this week’s DNR, Lee Bailey addresses some interesting statistics concerning who is buying men’s jeans. According to his findings, men under the age of 25 have decreased their denim purchase by almost 30% yet shoppers ages 45-65 by an astonishing 27%. Maybes our dads are hipper than we give them credit for?
Bailey found a few factors attribute for this jump in sales. Mainly, this age group caught on a bit late but is catching up with the denim craze. Additionally, older men identify with jeans as with legends such as James Dean and Marlon Brando.
So what’s with the kids? Apparently two extremes are pulling this age group from their faded blues. Slimane’s slim suit trend with Dior has trickled down leaving college-aged men to purchase more formal alternatives while retailers like Abercrombie & Fitch have inreased the trend of twill cargo pants and track styles.
Will you be ditching your denim in favor of other fashion trends or are you buying various washes for various activities?
