According to Gap is getting rid of their European design team. Established two-years ago they were put in place to give the preppy American retailer a European flair. However, with the decline in sales and Gap chiefs’ feelings that there is a greater demand for American style, there is less justification to staff a European-based design team. For those of you that feel this may be there swan song, don’t count them out just yet. The company is hedging its bets on renown designer Patrick Robinson, recently established as Head Designer of Gap, to save the day. Robinson has worked as a designer for the likes of Giorgio Armani, Anne Klein, Perry Ellis and Paco Rabanne. With Robinson’s experience designing for both North American and European customers, it’s probably a safe bet.
