tom ford 990 jeans

Recession. What recession? If you live in the world of Tom Ford than it doesn't exist. And to prove it, the man himself has just launched a line of jeans that will retail for a jaw-dropping $990. The jeans will be made of pre-washed/pre-shrunk Japanese selvage denim that will have the look of raw denim, but without the side-effects such as indigo bleed. In addition, the pockets are lined with the finest silk and the button closure is plated with 18-karat gold. Men will have the option of black or white as well as the traditional indigo color to compliment their wardrobes. We are dying to see what a pair of $990 jeans looks like, and when we do, you will too. Stay tuned…

  1. “…pre-washed/pre-shrunk Japanese selvage denim that will have the look of raw denim, but without the side-effects such as indigo bleed.”

The “side-effects such as indigo bleed” is the hallmark of great raw denim. Denim heads–such as myself–are attracted to the fading properties of raw denim. Raw denim jeans (especially those of the Japanese selvage variety) that don’t fade are virtually useless. But that’s just a “denim snob” perspective…

On the other hand, as for people who don’t really care about “fades”, Mr. Ford’s idea makes sense. After all, “denim snobs” make up only a teeny weenie portion of the denim market. Regarding the price point however…if I knew Tom Ford, I’d suggest that he fashion the button from *solid* gold as opposed to *gold plated*. That would be the only way to justify such a hefty price tag. But then again, I assume that wealthy consumers spend differently than the rest of us. This could perhaps do fairly well within that crowd. But only if he does a very small/limited production.

I already have a pretty good idea of how these are going to look–very conservative/standard 5 pocket jeans…but with a gold plated tack button. I’m waiting to see whether I’m right or not.

By the way, I *love* this site!!! Keep up the good work…seriously.
