In 2008, GQ Magazine, with the support of the CFDA and in partnership with Levi's and Bloomingdales, started the Best New Menswear Designers in America competition to recognize the rising stars of men's fashion design in America. This year's finalists are Richard Chai, Doug and Ben Burkman of Burkman Bros, Caulfield Prepatory Designer Vincent Flumiani, Frank Muytjens for J.Crew, Billy Reid, and Eunice Lee of Unis.

The finalists will be honored on February 11th at a joint GQ/Levi's event and will be featured in the March 2010 issue of GQ. The winner will be selected during the month of February by an impressive panel of judges including Erik Joule, SVP of Men's Merchandising and Design for Levi's, GQ Editor-in-Chief Jim Nelson, GQ Creative Director Jim Moore, CFDA Executive Director Steven Kolb, Bloomingdales VP of Fashion Direction Kevin Harter and Calvin Klein Collection Men's Creative Director Italo Zucchelli.

"There is so much fresh talent out there right now, it's more than just encouraging, it's become a challenge to narrow the field to a select few." said Nelson. "I believe we can begin to speak of a new wave of American fashion, and these six designers represent the best of it."

"This year's class of finalists represent the innovative spirit of American design," said Kolb. "There has never been a time when the menswear market has offered such diversity and creativity, thanks in large part to these talented designers."

The winner will join the ranks of past winners such as Engineered Garments and Robert Geller. A $50,000 cash prize will be rewarded and the opportunity to create a limited-edition collection for Levi's. The collection will receive an exclusive month long debut at several Bloomingdales locations this Fall with a select item being featured in the September 2010 issue of GQ. They will also participate in a mentoring program spearhead by GQ, Levi's and Bloomingdales.
