There are an abundance of stereotypes regarding the fashion, and/or retail industries and movies like The Devil Wears Prada don't help them any. Maybe non-fashion types find it fun to think of us as aloof, stuck-up types, living in our own little unattainable bubble and separate from the outside world. I find it somewhat amusing myself, although for the majority of us, it's largely untrue.
The fashion/retail industry is a forward-thinking entity that can claim a lot of firsts over others. Social media for example. Can you think of any other industry that has embraced it so completely? I have a friend that works in finance for a prestigious company and they are still trying to figure out how to use Twitter!
With that said it comes as little surprise that just days after the announcement that Google will be creating Google Wallet, a Mastercard PayPass Network using your smartphone, that GUESS will be one of the first companies to to partner with it. Just another bit of proof that this industry loves technology. Google Wallet will also launch a new "single tap" shopping experience that will enable GUESS customers to not only pay for an item using a credit card or gift card through the convenience of their own smartphone, but will also enable them to redeem discount offers and earn loyalty points, all with a single tap of a mobile device. That is pretty cool.
