It seems like everyone is obsessed with the camera phone self-portrait, otherwise known as the "Selfie". I blame the iPhone and it's front-facing camera combined with a natural tendency towards narcissism -which only increases ten-fold after that first like on Instagram. In the relatively short time the word has been in existence, not only has it became a regularly used term, thanks to social media, but it also was included in the Oxford Dictionary last month. That's pretty major.
Although, I'm not a proponent of selfies -at least my own (The last thing I need is to be reminded of a date I missed with my clarisonic) I have tried it once or twice…well twice. I have to say the amount of time it takes to get that triumvirate of posing, angle and lighting is absolutely daunting! And enough to put any budding selfie obsession of mine to rest. Or so I thought.
One bored day, when I was bored, trying to fight boredom I decided to browse the app store on my iPhone and came across Perfect365. It's described as an app for photo cleanup and makeup. I was skeptical, but the 4.5 star rating and the price, free, was enough to make me give it a try. Which I did. And I was really surprised. It is really good!
It has a face mapping feature that allows you to adjust key points (see below). This is important because it effects how all of the editing works. From there you can erase blemishes, soften skin, add makeup, lengthen eyelashes, thicken brows, raise cheekbones, slim your face. You can even curve your lips into a smile. There are preset features that you can choose from or you can create your own looks. You can go into seriously freaky territory or just smooth and even out your skin tone.
Sooo what was I saying about that budding selfie obsession….
