It's winter sports time! I am so looking forward to hitting the slopes this season. I wasn't able to go snowboarding last year so I have a lot of lost time to make up for. This also means that I have to update my gear, because unlike skiing, snowboarders have a particular sense of style and the brands that cater to them are constantly trying to keep up. Even so, many enthusiasts just board in their regular clothing and you'll see many a person in just jeans. My boyfriend, for example, will just layer his jeans and pair them with a waterproof jacket while I fuss over whether I should purchase a new suit.
This hasn't been overlooked by brands as most just adopted boarder's own clothing preferences into their designs. Trust me when I say, if you've never participated in winter sports, some slopes can double as a winter sport fashion runway. Many have tried to incorporate a denim suit into their lines, but they've been a little less than authentic. However, It looks like now the technology is finally catching up with demand.
Canadian brand Mason Industries has been gaining some buzz in this area by creating an actual denim snowboarding suit. Like real denim. Not a denim look-a-like. The pants and jackets are made with a stretch denim that is water-repellent, fully lined, breathable and resistant to abrasion. Equally important, there is a broken-in quality to the styles that give them a low-tech, grunge quality that is very much rock and roll. You could seriously just wear these on a snowy day.
For denimheads, there are videos on their website that really get into the heart of the technology. Price points run upwards of $200 USD and most can be found on their ecommerce site here. The full collection doesn't launch until September 2014 so purchasing now would put you ahead of the game.
I know I want a pair. How about you?
