Denim jackets for spring? That's so last year…and every year for that matter. Denim outerwear has gone beyond that this spring and I say it's about damn time!
Not since the '80s have we seen brands really take an interest in producing wearable outerwear made of denim. I get it. No one wants to revisit acid-wished parkas. Well, no one except hipsters who've been steadily adopting these thrift store finds. But, for those of us who are more mainstream, the looks coming down the New York runways are a lot more palatable.
Jackets were far removed from their western roots with no fading or exposed stitching to be found. Instead they were replaced by loose fitting blazers or jackets with ladylike, cinched waists. Trench coats and capes made an unexpected appearance in the collections of Thakoon and Norma Kamali and are surprisingly, very wearable. The most amazing piece, however, was on the runway of Nicholas K in the form of a denim wrap.
What do you think? Are you ready to rock a denim coat?
