I've known for awhile that Siwy was on the cusp of some major changes. The lookbooks they've released the last two seasons have shown a brand that is determined to push the envelope with it's core product, jeans. After visiting their showroom this week, those changes have been confirmed.
Jimmy Taverniti of the famed Taverniti jeans has taken over as Creative Director of Michelle Siwy's eponymous brand. That means new styles, expanded products and experimental looks. Denim blouses are a favorite of mine and Siwy has plenty in stock. The only button-down was a sleeveless ruffled blouse with a dyed look popular in the 70's. The remainder had common themes like frayed edges around the neckline and sleeves. Fraying is enough to add interest, in my opinion, but Siwy took it a step further by adding split panels in the back or a lace body below the bustline.
If I had to pick a new direction for women's denim I'd have to say Siwy may be the place to look for inspiration. Layering denim with removable pieces like lacy leggings or black tights adds a level of modesty to destroyed looks while also taking these styles to the next level.
