Denim-on-Denim with GUCCI

 

GUCCI's show has come and gone and I'm so bummed I missed it. Those are the breaks when you spend your days (and sometimes nights) running up and down the city during what I like to call press preview season. Fortunately, GUCCI has posted their show online at GucciConnect.com so we can still view all of the fabulousness ---and from three different camera angles. Try not to drool over the emerald greens and metallic details that punctuate this art deco-inspired collection. The brand is celebrating it's 90th anniversary and Creative Director Frida Giannini pulled out all the stops. Trust me when I say, you'll want everything.  

With that said, luxury brands like GUCCI aren't often known for denim. Although some may carry a few items, their main collections are usually far from extensive and spin-off lines that carry denim are usually branded differently than the main collection. That's why it was a shock to learn that GUCCI, not only has denim but has a pretty respectable and well-rounded collection.

Browsing through the items I thought, wow, you can literally wear denim-on-denim in head to toe GUCCI. So I got the big idea to pair my favorite items from their denim collection. Flare legs will still be hot for Fall and you can pair them with logoed peep-toe wedges and matching fedora. A classic denim skirt would be jazzy with a logoed belt and for men, a classic button-up is all you need for a pair of dark indigo slim-leg jeans. For couples, matching jeans ensures that your main squeeze is always your best accessory.

As with most luxury brands this denim does not come cheap with price points from $665 for flares and $535 for men's five-pocket regulars. However, this still falls far below former GUCCI Creative Director Tom Ford's $990 jean. and anyhow, denim connosseurs don't often blink at steep price tags.
