#DenimHuntinJapan Shopping Thrift, Vintage and Repurposed Jeans in Okinawa is Very Next Level

The denim button-downs that were repurposed using Life Magazine prints were some of my favorite finds.

I didn't spend all of my time in the mall while on vacation in Okinawa. I'm originally from New Jersey. No need to be a cliche. Besides, I found some of the most next level items in thrift shops located in some of the most obscure areas. Most of these shops were on side streets and don't have names, but they were prevalent and easy to find.

SpRay Premium Shop in the AEON Mall in Okinawa Japan

I recently came home after nearly a month in Okinawa Japan for some much needed vacation time. I went on the urging of a friend and boy am I glad I listened. What an amazing place! This not so small island is halfway between Taiwan and mainland Japan with a culture that is a mixture of its autonomous roots, it's acquisition by the Japanese and finally it's invasion by the allies during WWII. It truly is a harmonizing of cultures. I managed to post a few pictures to Instagram. Only a few though. It was a vacation after all and documenting it wasn't my biggest priority. Be that as it may, no matter how hard I try, I can never truly tear myself away from work. Especially since work is so tied into shopping. And boy did I shop! From shopping malls to boutiques to thrift stores denim abounds in Okinawa, and the best part is, it's not just in your basic jean.

Denim Scarves for Winter through Spring

Ever since discovering a Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren scarf made entirely of denim while browsing a random mall in Virginia, I’ve become obsessed with the idea of denim scarves. A few years ago I would have thought the idea was cheesy, but now with denim infiltrating every area of fashion, and not to mention…

#InspoSeries Death of Denim at NYFW?

It's hard not to find humor in this whole idea that denim is dying (see Denim is Not Dead). It becomes even more ridiculous when Kylie Jenner wears two different voluminous denim tunics, that are gorgeous I might add, and becomes the biggest topic off the runway this season.

From NY Times Fashion to fashion week enthusiasts, instagram feeds are chock full of denim street style. My favorites, Kylie's tunic, of course, and an amazing wrap skirt that mimics tying a denim shirt around the waist.

Scroll down to see some of the amazing looks you'll find under the #NYFW hashtag.

Seriously, does it look like denim is dying to you?

Fun Coachella Denim that Should Go Mainstream

Street3-001

Coachella has come and gone. The once insider music festival has become so well-known that alongside lists telling you what to wear are now lists on what trends need to retire (hint: knee-high gladiator sandals and feather headdresses).

Although festival season is used as a source of street-style inspiration, there are only a few trends that proliferate beyond the seasonal culture. I think that should change, don't you?

Scroll down to see just a few denim looks I think should go mainstream..

Erin Shows Off Her Wintery Style in DL1961 Slim Boyfriend Jeans #thejetsettingjean

DL1961, slim boyfriend jeans, thejetsettingjean, streetstyle, personal style blog

Slim boyfriend jeans are always presented as a spring jean and are guaranteed to be promoted in lookbooks and ads for that season. Styling them usually consists of pairing them with a slim tee and flat shoes or sneakers, or dressing them up with a blazer and pumps. Basically anything to show off the ankle and feminize the roomy silhouette.

Erin, an Art Therapist based out of Brooklyn, posed for us in a pair of slim boyfriend jeans by DL1961 at Rockefeller Center. I love how she styled them. Erin eschewed the flats and heels for a pair of supple leather boots. A practical choice I might add considering how cold it was. I loved how Erin tucked the jeans in at times and at other times untucked them showing off the cropped length with the boots as reference. Brilliant!

In between shooting, we admired the Christmas tree and the Swarovski replica of the star atop it; a rare thing to do for native New Yorkers. We tend to stay out of heavy tourist areas.

See more pics of Erin showing off her Brooklyn style in front of some of these famous Christmas landmarks after the jump.

Erin wore a pair of DL1961 'Riley' jeans, an Anthropologie blouse (similar), Frye boots (similar), a key charm necklace from Catbird (similar) and a DKNY coat (similar).
