"...pre-washed/pre-shrunk Japanese selvage denim that will have the look of raw denim, but without the side-effects such as indigo bleed."
The "side-effects such as indigo bleed" is the hallmark of great raw denim. Denim heads--such as myself--are attracted to the fading properties of raw denim. Raw denim jeans (especially those of the Japanese selvage variety) that don't fade are virtually useless. But that's just a "denim snob" perspective...
On the other hand, as for people who don't really care about "fades", Mr. Ford's idea makes sense. After all, "denim snobs" make up only a teeny weenie portion of the denim market. Regarding the price point however...if I knew Tom Ford, I'd suggest that he fashion the button from *solid* gold as opposed to *gold plated*. That would be the only way to justify such a hefty price tag. But then again, I assume that wealthy consumers spend differently than the rest of us. This could perhaps do fairly well within that crowd. But only if he does a very small/limited production.
I already have a pretty good idea of how these are going to look--very conservative/standard 5 pocket jeans...but with a gold plated tack button. I'm waiting to see whether I'm right or not.
By the way, I *love* this site!!! Keep up the good work...seriously.

This jeans made of pre-washed/pre-shrunk Japanese selvage denim that will have the look of raw denim is suitable to him. He looks gorgeous on that.
