Gallery_main-Britney-spears-circus-image111808

The boys of DSquared, Dean and Dan Caton, have been tapped as wardrobe designers for Britney Spear's upcoming Circus tour which kicks off Tuesday, March 3rd in New Orleans. Looks inspired by circus staples, such as clowns, trapeze artists and jugglers will be reinterpreted for Spears and her dancers and in true Spears fashion is sure to push the provocative envelope.

"We are enormous fans of Britney and have been waiting for the perfect moment to collaborate with her. It's going to be wild." says Dean and Dan.

Denim on the Runway: Milan Fashion Week: Just Cavalli

After a lot of 'will he or won't he', Roberto Cavalli triumphantly showed his Just Cavalli line in Milan Fashion Week, successfully thumbing his nose at a recession which saw the bankruptcy of Ittierre, the company that produces Just Cavalli and other luxury diffusion lines.

The denim coming down the runway was ripped to shreds, baring lots of leg as it hung on by a thread in some cases. Acid-wash combined with shredded denim was wild and added surface interest and dimension. For those that are looking for something a little more tame, there was also a simple black skinny with zippered ankles.

Denim on the Runway: London Fashion Week: Mulberry

As London Fashion Week wrapped up to make way for the women's ready-to-wear shows in Milan, Mulberry showed one of the final denim-heavy collections coming down the London runway. Seen only in the menswear collection, the denim itself didn't stand out so much for innovation, but for rather how it was styled. For the umpteenth time this season, in NY and London, men's jeans have been tucked into punk/combat boots. Do we detect a trend emerging...

Barney's New York Warehouse Sale Ends Sunday

Uniqlo Launches at Selfridges

This Monday, February 23rd, affordable, casual contemporary brand, UNIQLO launched within luxury retailer Selfridges' Oxford Street location. The partnership entails an edited version of UNIQLO's menswear collection in a dedicated area of the menswear floor within the London-based retailer. The collection includes staples of the brand such as cotton cashmere sweaters and hooded sweats, but the partnership will also launch the new Japanese Denim collection which will include regular and selvedge denim.

"Gary Edgley, Senior Menswear Buyer for Selfridges says, "We are extremely excited to be partnering with UNIQLO to bring our customer a new and never seen before menswear concept. UNIQLO brings the best in contemporary, affordable design and an authoritative voice to the Selfridges' brand mix. The arrival of UNIQLO in store reaffirms Selfridges as London's leading men’s fashion destination across price point.

"Simon Coble, UNIQLO UK C.E.O, looks forward to this exciting new partnership. "This is not only a great honour to be considered by Selfridges, but it is also a significant milestone for the expansion and growth of the brand both in the UK and on a global level. I have great expectations for this new venture and very much look forward to introducing the UNIQLO brand to a new audience."

Denim on the Runway: Amsterdam Fashion Week: Blue Blood

Dutch brand Blue Blood showed at Amsterdam Fashion Week earlier this month and was on par with many of the trends we've been seeing for Fall. However, Blue Blood added their own spin to these looks with details such as twisting under the knee and 'fatty' selvedge denim.

Crotches were dropped on boyfriend-style, distressed jeans with cuffs a recurring theme on the runway. Surface interest was added with rips and spatters. Conversely, sophisticated looks were shown in clean black or raw denim.

Charley 5.0

It has been the mark of modern fashion to see trends recycle. The 90's revisited the 70's. The 00's revisited the 80's and the next decade is sure to revisit the 90's...and 80's...and 70's. Enter Charley 5.0

Charley 5.0 makes no apologies about channeling directly from the disco era and seamlessly mixes a 70's aesthetic with millennium sensibilities. There are a wide range of pieces available, such as maxi dresses, jumpers and mini-shorts complete with bra-tops, all made with lightweight denim. Expertly done bleached-out effects update the tie-dye on girly dresses and create perfect-imperfections on blazers and mini-dresses.

Radcliffe Denim for TopShop

British-brand, Radcliffe denim launched a capsule collection at the Oxford Street location for Topshop earlier this month. Radcliffe was created by londoner Suzy Radcliffe at the start of the premium denim trend and being one of the few brands based outside of the LA market at the time, she produced jeans for women on her side of the Atlantic.

"I love Topshop and really wanted to do a range that was totally focused on the Topshop customer. Being one of the only British denim brands, Radcliffe is ideally placed to design a range that is perfect for the savvy Topshop customer," says Radcliffe.

With a high-waisted flare, harem pant and skinny jean, the collection is less pricey than the larger brand but, at £75, still boasts price points slightly higher than what's expected at Topshop. Only 50 pairs of each will be available and are expected to go fast. As a bonus, check out Suzy Radcliffe's tips posted at the Denim Shop Clinic on Topshop.com.

TopShop USA...Finally

At first we were euphoric, then we pined with anticipation. Next we were anxious from waiting  and now we're just a little lukewarm. Can you blame us? The TopShop 'Coming to America' campaign has been in full motion since last year and like all of their American fans, we feel like our emotions have been toyed with due to the constantly changing dates. To make matters worse, we've had to walk down Broadway in SoHo and be teased by the signs announcing the future site of TopShop's New York City  location. But now, finally, we have a date, April 2nd. This time, I think, we can hold our breath without danger of suffocation.

Denim on the Runway: London Fashion Week: Twenty8Twelve

Savannah and Sienna Miller hit the three 'S's with their Fall '09 collection for Twenty8Twelve, Sleek, Shiny and Skinny. At first glance, the denim coming down the runway looked like a lot of the same. However, upon closer inspection the subtle sheen on blue and gray denim added an unexpected polish. When applied to jeans with the predictable thigh abrasions, it had a futuristic feel that reminded us of light reflected on curved metal. Kudos to the Miller girls for making the same 'ol, same 'ol seem a little more interesting.
