Denim on the Runway: NY Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs

At the Marc Jacobs show, amidst all the electro-pop color and angular silhouettes was a surprising treat for denim lovers. An overall skinny jean was jazzed up with pleats at the hips in a throwback to the 80's in blue and purple overdyes. Normally pleated pants are considered a giant no-no, but leave it to Marc Jacobs to find a way to make it work.

Jennifer Aniston in Degaine

Apparently, Jennifer Aniston really loves Degaine Slim Bootcut Jeans since she seems to wear them all the time. Here she is spotted wearing them again on a jaunt to the Caribbean.

Denim on the Runway: NY Fashion Week: G-Star Raw

G-Star Raw held their show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in what had to be one of the more inspiring shows of the season. It's official, no one does raw denim the way G-Star does. Classical music, reminiscent of Chopin's Nocturnes, played on two grand pianos behind a semitransparent curtain while the models walked down three catwalks. All of the garments were expertly tailored. Dropped crotches were ubiquitous on raw, varnished and heavily washed denim and highlighted the brand's utilitarian interpretation of the harem pant.

At the shows conclusion, G-Star introduced their new Raw Icon, actor Benicio Del Toro, who poetically read the song 'Candidate' by Joy Division (excerpt below) causing a whoop of cheers and applause. (To see Benicio's moving rendition visit the DenimHunt Facebook Group)

"it's just second nature,
it's what we've been shown
We're living by your rules,
that's all that we know
I tried to get to you
I tried to get to you
I tried to get to you
I tried to get to you
Oh how I tried to get to you"

Denim on the Runway: NY Fashion Week: Diesel Black Gold

It seems Diesel is a brand that cannot be stopped. On the day of the show, a mohawked street team was stationed outside the tents at Bryant Park paying homage to the brand's logo and promoting the opening of the new Diesel Planet on Fifth Ave (for images visit the DenimHunt Facebook Group).

Inside the Tent, anticipation grew as a mixture of jazz and hissing cats played as background 'music' behind the voices of Jack Nicholson and Humphrey Bogart from bar scenes in The Shining and Casablanca respectively. When the show started, a curtain lifted to reveal a live jazz band as the models started their strut down the runway. The collection, as a whole, had a 1930's feel that incorporated Diesel's distressed streetwear aesthetic. The denim offerings included carrot leg silhouettes in jumpers and jeans with extra details such as abraded knees, or leather detailing inspired by hosiery suspender belts.

The C.R.A.F.T Campaign

Here's a first look at the upcoming C.R.A.F.T. Jeans campaign courtesy of Vogue UK. The add features a Keith Richards look-a-like posed next to a model in a Mick Jagger shirt. If you don't remember C.R.A.F.T., they are the cult denim line named after a drunken night of debauchery by two denim designers. Unfortunately that night is too scandalous to talk about here, but you can read about it in detail on their website. If you need clues C.R.A.F.T. = Can't Remember a F*** Thing.

Denim on the Runway: NY Fashion Week: William Rast

At the William Rast show it was all studs, rips, patches and marblized washes. It's as if they wanted to guarantee a bullseye by throwing a mess of darts at the board. However, there is one look that caught our attention. The various shades of indigo patches on the body hugging skinnies added dimension and texture. So maybe they got a hit after all.
