Founded in 2001, the company set out to "dress the modern girl who was no longer definable, but multi-dimensional in character and style". (Diesel Black Gold Fall 2009)
Diesel Black Gold won't be showing at the tents this season. However, its not without good reason. Renzo Rosso, president of Diesel and Only the Brave has tapped celebrated, Greece-born, British designer Sophia Kokosalaki to play a primary role in the development of the women's line for the high-end collection starting Fall/Winter 2010.
Kokosalaki began her career collaborating with several international fashion houses. In 1999 she launched her first women's collection and has since been recognized and applauded internationally. She has received several prestigious awards such as the 'Best New Designer 2001', 'Art Foundation Award for Fashion 2002', 'Best New Generation Designer 2003' and more. She is also the brain behind the costumes for the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
"I am thrilled and honored to collaborate on this new project with Renzo Rosso and the Diesel Black Gold team. It is always inspiring to work with the people at the top of their game," says Kokosalaki.
In entering the partnership, Kokosalaki will regain complete control of her namesake line previously held by Diesel parent company Only the Brave.
I am very excited at this new step in the development of Diesel Black Gold and very happy to be working with Sophia on the project. Her talent is incredible. Her taste in high-end fashion is already known but what people do not necessarily expect from her is her skill in dealing with denim and contemporary casual, the core of Diesel Black Gold," says Rosso.
We lament the absence of Diesel from the tents this year but we will wait with baited breath to see the results of this partnership next season.
Levi's is doing so much its almost hard to keep up. As part of their Another Life Campaign, they are giving a second life to worn-out jeans by turning them into spanking new kicks. Used jeans are washed and then cut to size to create a unique and original vulcanized boot with uppers made entirely of authentic, used Levi's jeans. Each pair of shoes, uses two pairs of jeans and because no two pairs of jeans are alike, neither are the shoes.
The range also includes belts and baseball caps all made from recycled Levi's and will be available in the UK at select branches of Levi's shops and stockist number 02076020288.
Remember when we blogged about award-winning emerging designer Robert Geller's new collection for Levi's? Well, it's almost here. The Robert Geller for Levi's assortment will be introduced at Bloomingdales and Bloomingdales.com at the beginning of New York Fashion Week on September 10th.
This is the second year in a row that Levi's has teamed up with the winner of GQ Magazine's "Best New Menswear Designers in America" a competition formed in conjunction with the CFDA in 2008. The goal of the collaboration is to create an exclusive collection that merges the designer's vision with Levi's iconic 501 jean.
"Collaborating with Levi's was really great. In my own work I often interpret the romance of history and try to make it modern and relevant for today," says Geller.
After the Fashion Week launch, select pieces will be available at key Levi's store locations across America on September 21st. They will launch in Japan later in the Fall.

Some are calling it the war on pants a'la Lady GaGa, while others say its proof jeggings are here to stay. RackedNY, the discoverer of this 'phenomena' calls it "the latest skirmish in fashion's battle with the forces of legwear". So we think it's safe to say that the Siwy see-through jeans are making a statement.
Called the Sophie, the jean comes in a skinny silhouette and is denim in the back with mesh paneling in the front. If you're brave or daring enough to wear them you can find them at Shopbop.com retailing at $242. Be sure to take pictures. Not of yourself, but of the reaction your sure to get from those around you.
