After previewing the looks coming down the pipeline for Summer 2010 it is clear why a brand like Guess has such longevity.
For womenswear, jeans were on trend with skinnies, boyfriends and bootcuts in varying washes and finishes. If you had any doubts about the resurgence of embellishments on mainstream brands, then don't, because Guess does it right and wearable. Denim was decked out in studding and embroidery with styles, such as the boyfriend jean, jazzed up even more with destruction and spattering. Also, bleached-out effects were used on shirt dresses and short-sleeve jackets, as opposed to the typical jean, and are a nice change for Summer.
Denim dresses were a DenimHunt favorite, particularly a sophisticated tulip dress with zipper trim. Peel back the flower to expose a gorgeous print inside. Taking the use of denim into unexpected territory, Guess is also offering a denim bikini sunsuit and a denim-like, two-piece swimsuit with boyshorts.
Men's styles mimicked the edginess of the women's line. Many jeans were classic styles with abrasion and whiskering, but also expect to see lots of gray among the denim offerings. A standout piece was the mega-coated gray jean that almost feels like leather.
Men will also love the shirting options for next Summer as there was a lot of playing with pigments and dyes. Expect to see denim shirts in marblized washes. Button-down shirts ranging from ginghams to solids were overdyed using the most fun and imperfect techniques. T-shirts also showed fun with dye as well as some interesting printing techniques like the reverse puff print for an inverted puckering effect.
