Denim on the Runway: NY Fashion Week F/W 2010: Diesel Black Gold

Diesel Black Gold didn't put on a runway show last season as they transitioned into a new era that began with the hiring of celebrated designer, Sophia Kokosalaki, as creative director. It was a highly anticipated collection as many wondered what direction Kokosalaki would take with the already forward-thinking label.
It's safe to say her approach was slicker than past seasons with an interesting combination of distressed denim, supple leather and sheers. Denim was heavily washed and/or distressed. A finish that I can only describe as a liquid, marbleized wash was seen on denim jeans, cropped jackets, knit body-con dresses and wrap-around boots. Patches were added on the lower thigh to make the wash appear more three-dimensional on jeans.
The styling was also a highlight of the show with buttery soft leather tunics and shirts for both men and women paired with denim. A DenimHunt favorite were the sheer "dresses" layered over faded denim-on-denim.
