Dockers Fall 2010 Preview

While heading to the Fall 2010 preview for Dockers, I wasn't sure what to expect. I will admit though, I had my prejudices. All I knew of Dockers were the khakis and overly laundered slacks my father still hangs on to. So it came as a complete shock when I walked into the showroom. Long story short, these are not your father's slacks.

Docker's is owned by Levi's and used the same showroom to display their collection, however, they did it with a lot more flash. Every effort was made, from neon signs to creative displays, even adding a shoe shine stand complete with a shoe shine guy, to eliminate those stereotypes that people such as myself have about the brand.

The variety of bottoms offered by Dockers is far more than I ever would have thought. The basics no longer seem basic and conform to current trends. Slim tapered legs are great for guys that have embraced the slim fit trend that has become their version of the skinny jean. Canvas pants are definitely a crossover from the denim market as well as abrasions and slight destruction. After walking into the flash and then viewing the collection, if you still didn't grasp how cool the brand has become, the styling would certainly reel you in. Slacks were tucked into boots, another carryover from the recent denim trend in New York City of guys showing off military style boots by either tucking or cuffing. A couple of displays went the art route and fashioned suspenders out of metal loops and heavy canvas to hang solo and be admired gallery-style. Graphic tees and button-down shirts were also part of the collection.

Going in another direction, cargo pockets were given leather buckles which were an homage to accessories of earlier times, but this wasn't the only place were the past was channeled. Microplaids were heavily brushed and reminded me of old-fashioned, wool suit. Last but not least, slacks with sheen added a whole other level of sophistication. 

In conclusion; I am a convert.
