Miley Cyrus Looking *Gasp* 17 in J Brand

Miley Cyrus came out for a good cause the other day in support of Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Relief. Miley was photographed having a conversation with country music sweetheart Taylor Swift and it's hard to ignore the contrast between the two. Do you really need me to explain? Be that as it may, we give Miley a lot of credit for her age-appropriate, casual look. She's wearing a pair of J Brand "Babe" bell bottom jeans in Dark Vintage with a loose white shirt and a sweater we've seen before on a not so flattering outfit.

The jeans retail for $207 and can be found at www.jbrandjeans.com.

MiH Jeans Partners With J Crew's "In Good Company"

(Jessica Biel in MiH Jeans)

MiH Jeans has partnered with J Crew to become part of J Crew's "In Good Company" selection of outside brands. "In Good Company" is an assemblage of tried and true quality brands that J Crew describes as being design heroes and legends in the making.

Creative Director Jenna Lyons and MiH Jeans founder/designer Chloe Lonsdale agreed instantly that both of their brands share the same values - authentic heritage, quality and design, with Lyons explaining about their first meeting that "Chloe came in wearing her MiH Jeans and we were in love. I was instantly hooked. They're the kind of jeans you'll wear forever."

With their feminine working of selvage denim, their use of Italian fabrics and production in a family-run factory in Southern Italy, it's not hard to see why J Crew considers MiH Jeans one of their legends in the making.

You can find MiH Jeans as well as other J Crew In Good Company partners at www.jcrew.com.

Gwyneth Paltrow Spotted in J Brand Houlihan Cargos. Because We Can't Make It Through A Week Without Talking About Them

Ironman actress, and apparently hands-on Mom, Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted dropping her son off at school wearing a pair of the inescapable J Brand "Houlihan" cargo pants in Vintage Olive. I don't think I've made it through one week without mentioning these pants at least once. Or twice. J Brand really hit the mark with these babies. J Brand designer, whoever you are, ask for a raise.

The pants retail for $231 and can be purchased at www.jbrandjeans.com.

Paris Hilton Resurfaces in Black Orchid Jeans

Paris Hilton must have walked into Kitson and bought up everything she saw judging by the armload of bags she was carrying. Ahhh to have it like that. So with this slow reemergence back into the spotlight does this mean the heiress is back? I guess we'll find out. Not much has changed about her judging from the hair and the pose, but she has updated her look somewhat with a pair of Black Orchid's "Black Jewel" jeggings in Cloud wash and platform pumps.

The jeggings retail for $115 and can be found at www.blacklabelboutique.com.

Katy Perry in J Brand and Rock & Republic

Katy Perry opted for style over camp when she was spotted exiting the BBC Radio 1 building in London a few days ago. Katy rounded out an uncharacteristically dark and edgy look with a pair of J Brand "901" leggings in Brigade. I'm usually not a fan of military camouflage in regular clothing but I love the way it's done in these leggings. Subtle. Not over the top.

The leggings retail for $172 and can be found at www.jbrandjeans.com or Intermix stores.

UPDATE: Katy Perry is wearing Rock & Republic's Celina pump in Royal Purple. The shoes retail for $295 and can be found at www.zappos.com and Rock & Republic at Encore - Wynn Las Vegas.

Brand to Watch: Salsa "Fits My Life" Jeans

ONE 1

With the World Cup currently in progress I can't help but make soccer references sometimes, although I've never played the sport and have only a mild interest in it. Most of these references I keep to myself, but today I'm making an exception.

Recently, I was made aware of established Portuguese brand Salsa"Fits My Life" Jeans. I had never heard of them before so I decided to do some research. What I found out was that the brand was launched in 1994 and for the remainder of the '90's expanded into the rest of Europe and Asia. In the aughties, the brand expanded it's reach into the Middle East and has become a bestseller in countries like Kuwait, Quatar, UAE and Oman. This has led the brand to be named Portugal's Product of the Year 2010. Very impressive.

With that said, it seems world domination isn't complete unless you can tackle the US market. Hence the soccer references in my head. How often have we heard this (and frankly every other) World Cup, how soccer is the most popular sport in the world except the US? Every year, soccer fans in the States pray that the national team will do well and bring more popularity to the sport here. Well, considering this year's defeat, Salsa Jeans is sure to have a lot more success.

You can already find Salsa Jeans in high end boutiques like Fred Segal and Lisa Kline. This Summer, however, they will be opening up their first flagship store in Los Angeles which should expand their distinct approach to denim to a broader US audience. By distinct, I mean, styles are categorized by certain attributes like, the butt lifting Push Up jeans, Unisex jeans, Reversible jeans and tummy-flattening Push In jeans. These styles are combined with current flavors such as skinny jeans and flare legs. They also show a proclivity towards design with a small offering of pieces that will be sure to draw the attention of more creative and fashionably daring types.

Salsa Jeans range in price from $87 to $210. For more information visit them at www.salsajeans.com

Diesel Fall/Winter 2010 Preview

  DSC02580

With Diesel there are some things I've come to expect, killer washes, original styles, awesome fits and an unconventional attitude. Case in point, Diesel's Fall/Winter 2010 collection is titled "Craft Rebel, Wire Revolt" where decorative handcraft is assimilated into the brand's signature styles. This, however, is not your typical appliques and needlepoint. Instead, for women, you get the "crazy needle" on skinny jeans. The needle spells out a message that I couldn't read but will be sure to have everyone on the New York City subway making an attempt to read your thighs instead of the Daily News. You also get neon shorts with visible garters built into them for Fall ---a fun detail for DIYers who are sure to be inspired to customize their tights and leggings. My favorite idiosyncrasy of this craft punk style is the unconventional use of wire and metal. Chains were the main element of choice in varied link styles and were found on seams, the logo patch, rips and wherever else the design team felt inspired. The most direct use was the chain pocket. Edgy and fun, it will definitely have all eyes trained on your ass-ets. Lately, that's a good thing.

For men, the craft punk aesthetic isn't as evident as it is in womenswear, but you still get fly details like zippered back pockets and leather appliques. Ever seen a guy look bad in Diesel jeans? Me neither. They have mens' fits down to a beautiful science. Because of this, I wasn't as focused on that as I was on the washes. However, I did take notice of recently launched style, Shioner, the brand's skinniest fit for men. I'm looking forward to seeing Diesel's take on the skinny jean on an actual body. If the past is any indication, I have no doubt it will be a success. As for the washes, an eyecatcher was the 3-Dimensional effect that looked as if it was created by abrading the indigo-dye down tonally, creating depth. I was surprised by the ripped and torn jeans for men, thinking that this trend may be winding down, but seeing the gray wash with the lumberjack check lining behind the shreds made me think twice about it.

As per usual, Diesel is way ahead of the game and I wouldn't be surprised to find elements of "Craft Punk Wire Revolt" incorporated into other brands several seasons from now.
