With a name like Rockstar Sushi it's hard to know what to expect. For some reason Japanese animations kept popping in to my head. That, fortunately, is not the direction of Rockstar Sushi denim, although it would be interesting to see how something like that would play out.
The brand is the brainchild of Frank Mechaly, formerly of Blue Cult and 575. The Rockstar concept comes from Mechaly's belief that being a rock star is an attitude and lifestyle that's not only reserved for musicians. Who knows where the "sushi" part comes from. His goal with the brand is to change what he calls the modern premium denim stereotype. According to Mechaly "The 5-pocket is dead" and people don't want to spend any more of their money on 5-pocket jeans. His solution? To create a 4-pocket jean. Let the head scratching commence.
Besides the eccentricities, it actually is a nice looking collection. It was inspired by biker culture which isn't exactly a new concept, however, Mechaly didn't skip on the details or tone it down like most brands. Most items in the collection have reinforced knees and zippering on the back pockets. There's also a US Flag lining in all of the pockets and buckle details on some of the women's jeans.
So far there are seven fits for women and five for men. To learn more about Rockstar Sushi Denim visit www.rockstarsushi.com.
