While visiting the New York City showroom of Chip & Pepper to preview their women's Holiday 2010 collection, I was curious as to what I would see from the twins that coined the term Dirty Denim to describe a cutthroat industry for a Full Frontal Fashion documentary shown on the Sundance Channel. What I found, for the most part, was a collection filled with skinny jeans, but the devil was definitely in the details.
Skinny jeans are everywhere nowadays and it's easy to just keep it simple and focus on fit and wash. If you have a good fit and a good wash, they will come (forgive my Field of Dreams reference). Be that as it may, twins Chip & Pepper Foster made sure that there is nothing simple about their version of the skinny jean. For example, a black on black marblized wash (above) is an eyecatcher on it's own, but quilted moto details on the knees take it to another level. Moto details did not end there, however, and could also be found on the inner thigh and, surprisingly, on the back pockets.
Zipper details are something that I've seen on other collections, so it's probably safe to say that they will be a trend for Fall. Chip & Pepper used zippers on front pockets and layered them on back pockets. They also used zipper teeth as metallic embellishments to outline pockets and waistbands.
Other notable features were coated finishes on lightweight denim which created an almost synthetic texture. A fascinating feature on a pair of black skinny jeans was the extra length of fabric that extended down the back ankle. This design detail was outlined with black studs to further emphasize it's existence and is sure to have an interesting effect laying over the back of high-heeled shoes.
Last but not least, were the assortment of reds, oranges and purples which were a bright addition to a Holiday collection which had an eclectic, anything-goes appeal. It could probably be said that it is a direct reflection of the twin's hold-nothing-back personality.
