Rounding out the last of my Spring 2011 previews and with Pre-Fall just around the corner I was able to fit one last one in. The brand that got the honor this year was recently relaunched and newly refurbished MNRKY. If the name sounds familiar to you it's because the brand dates back to the '90s and was a part of the tattooed, graphic-heavy, Ed Hardy, Affliction genre. This time around, however, don't expect to see the kids of the Jersey Shore favoring the brand. They've been bought by HMX Group, the company that owns Hickey Freeman, and have revamped their offerings into something a little more palatable for the rest of us.
MNRKY specializes in menswear and was the cool kid in a showroom full of suits. The silhouettes, from eyeballing it, seemed to be largely slim straight which is a fit that looks good on most men. The washes ran the gamut from dark indigo, to greige to an interesting acid wash made with extra thick yarns. Also in the mix were slacks made of alternative materials like sturdy canvas. A range of shirts and tees were on hand for those that would like to dress head to toe in MNRKY and have already found a fan in Reeve Carney, star of the upcoming broadway musical version of Spider-Man and lead singer of the band Carney.
One thing I couldn't help but notice, most likely due to the over large hangtag, was a commitment to sustainability. The brand states that they use less water, less energy and less chemicals in their wash process which is always a bonus.
The relaunch hasn't hit stores yet but expect to see them in boutiques and major department stores in the beginning of the year with prices running upwards of $160 for a pair of jeans.
