Denim on the Runway: A/W 2011-2012: Diesel Black Gold
Diesel Black Gold gets kudos for having what I would call a very democratic show this season at Pier 94. By democratic I mean the runway meandered through the audience in such a way that it was virturally impossible to have a bad view. Even those photographers that didn't want to fight for space in the camera pit could choose to set up shop in one of the many open spaces that were available on the models' long walk to the end. It was very easy to mingle with other fashion folk with this set up or just simply admire all of the photog-bait who happened to be out en masse. Please Diesel lets do it like this again next season.
The show started with a bass-thumping soundtrack that literally shook my seat and made me want to nod my head in time. Female models stomped down the runway in embossed leathers, shiny velvets, voluminous furs and gorgeous chunky knits which were sometimes layered all into one look. I loved the leather flares and the different leather corsets especially when they were laced over button-up shirts.
There was a little of the dandy in men; a trend which seems to be going nowhere and thank God. Guys you just had too many years of dressing down. With that said, foppish became fierce and virile in shearling coats with untamed fur.
