GUESS Fall 2011 Preview
This season I've been all about taking it down as far as finishing is concerned. I've found myself being more tuned in to details and silhouettes as opposed to over the top treatments; although I have found myself drawn to color.
For Fall it seems, GUESS has gone in that direction as well. Must be the denim gods. A new capsule collection called "LA Vintage" (above and below) was on display in the showroom and is a perfect example of this. The washes had a subtle, aged quality that didn't overwhelm covetable silhouettes like the double-breasted, belted jacket.
The rest of the collection, specifically women's, went this same route in details like voluminous faux fur collars and permanent creases stitched into bootcut jeans. Color carried over from Spring in the form of plums and mustards. Special treatments and finishes popped up in the men's collection in rips, stitched tears and abrasians. With all my talk of tiring of treatments, I did linger at a faded jean with a slight sheen and papery texture for awhile. I stared at it, touched it and imagined it worn from use, all the while thinking that maybe I was speaking too soon.
