Kai-Aakmann Fall/Winter 2011 Preview
I wasn't familiar with Kai-Aakmann before attending their press preview; having a vague notion of having heard about them once. Apparently the label is owned by the same company that owns Eryn Brinie. But if Eryn Brinie is all soft colors, drapy looks and contemporary design, then Kai-Aakmann is it's more edgy, asexual twin.
Kai-Aakmann offers mens and womens apparel in androgynous styles that are somewhat interchangeable to both sexes. Men's pleated pants in a luscious navy were cropped at the ankle and would look just as fabulous on a woman. A woman's gray boxy coat (above) had that contemporary but edgy look that is characteristic of many of the label's silhouettes and would work just as well on a man. I can just picture the wardrobe possibilities with a boyfriend of similar tastes.
The simple color palette of mostly army green, navy and black, was the perfect canvas for exciting details like oversized hoods as well as asymetrical jackets that were low in the front and high in the back. Simple tops were anything but simple with Rodarte-style, open constructed sweater knits and fleece tops with a zipper that ran up and down the spine. There are details to discover in almost every piece and fans of Kai-Aakmann will never tire of finding something new.
