House of Avernae Fall 2011 Lookbook
Several months ago I recieved a package from a new brand based out of Holland called House of Avernae. In it were a pair of gray jeans, several pairs of pants and a top. I'm always skeptical when it comes to new denim brands because not all of them use the best materials or have the best fit, and although their enthusiasm and eagerness to be praised tugs at my conscious, I can't in good faith do it. You'd be surprised at how many brands we here at DenimHunt do not talk about.
So with a fair amount of skepticism on the brain I tried on the jeans first. They were a skinny fit with only 2% stretch, a rare combination in this age of denim leggings. Surprisingly, even with so little stretch, the jeans hugged my curves nicely and passed the butt inspection. A positive side-effect of the minimal stretch was that the jeans felt sturdier and the gray wash seemed richer. Skepticism thoroughly put aside, I tried on the pants next. I am not exaggerating when I say, heaven. Made of a heavy ounce twill, they were heavily brushed and had the softest texture. I'm a bonafied textile-ophile and seriously could not stop caressing them. The silhouette was pleated at the top and skinnier at the bottom. I've since worn them cuffed with brogues, uncuffed with platforms and will pair them with sandals for the Spring.
Since receiving that package those items have become heavy rotations in my wardrobe, a sure sign of my happiness with them. So today my conscious can rest easy with regards to a new brand and when the lookbook popped in my inbox a few weeks ago I was excited to post it. Other than faddish camouflage pants, for the most part, every item is focused on a good fit and quality materials as opposed to crazy washes which, in my humble opinion, is wise for a new brand. Purchase something from House of Avernae and expect it to be a rotation in your own wardrobe for a long while.
They're not available stateside yet but we will keep you updated on when they are available in the US or via e-tail. Watch this space.
