G-Star RAW Celebrates 15 Years of the Elwood with the Motor 5620 Collection

G-Star RAW is celebrating the 15th anniversary of their "Elwood" jean by launching the "Motor 5620" collection; a curated collection of men's and women's apparel from the Summer 2011 season that are heavily influenced by the golden age of motorcycles.

Before I go into the details, I'd like to backtrack first and relate a funny story I heard once while in G-Star's offices about the history of the Elwood. Head Designer Pierre Morisset, while waiting at a rest stop, happened upon a biker who had been soaked by the rain. The jeans the biker wore had been permanently molded into his riding position from exposure to the elements as well as heat and fluids from the motorcycle. Pierre seeing this, decided to use it as inspiration to create the first true 3D jean, whose main feature was the articulated knee design from motocross trousers and had the functionality of workwear painter’s pants. A motorcycle enthusiast, he sought to name it after 1960's Grand Prix motorcycle legend Mike Hailwood. However, because of his accent, Hailwood somehow became Elwood and the "Elwood" jean was born. A great story don't you think?

The Motor 5620 program includes raw, tough styles for both sexes such as the "Motor 5620 Jacket" and the "Marlon Round-Neck Sweater" for men and the white "Motor 5620 leather vest" and dark mini "Motor 5620 short" for women.
Here's a friendly dare to those who purchase items from this collection. Try, just try to wear the Elwood and not share that story.
