Theory Resort 2011 Preview
Theory offered something interesting for Resort 2011; glossy velvet 'jeans'. I use the term loosely because obviously they are not made of denim. However, what else would you call a pant constructed in the five pocket style that's synonymous with jeans. The majority of them were bootcut with some even having a faded, worn-in look to them. Therefore, I think calling them glossy velvet jeans is fitting. Don't you?
Something I noted while photographing them is, while most brands will stick a novelty style like this in a collection, (I assume to punch it up a bit or to show what they can do) Theory had several pairs on display in mauve, navy and black tones which I interpreted as a real push to introduce this style. I found myself gravitating toward them again and again, already creating styling options in my head.
In contrast to the velvet jeans, there were a number of light prints on three dimensional fabrics in dresses, sweaters and tops. Rounding out the collection were the monochromatic, classic styles typical of the brand and sure to please their fans.
