Cheap Monday Fall/Winter 2011 Lookbook

I remember buying my first pair of Cheap Mondays in London about six years ago at a Tsubi ( now Ksubi) store for £26. They were black uber-skinnies with white stitching. The material was a scratchy synthetic and the ankle was so tight that they'd probably be considered jeggings now. I thought I was so cool because bootcut jeans were still the norm at the time and the industry wasn't sure if skinnies would be a democratic silhouette.

Less than a year later I went back to London to the same store and bought a pair of magenta skinny cords from the brand as well. I think I only wore them four times before giving up. The color was too difficult to ensemblize an outfit. Be that as it may I always appreciated how forward the brand was at such a reasonable price. We shouldn't always have to go broke for fashion.

Fast forward to Cheap Monday's Fall/Winter 2011 lookbook featuring founder Örjan Andersson, and clearly the brand continues to offer avant-guard silhouettes. They've never been shy about color or materials and that is evident in the collection, particularly with the shiny, puff shirts, which I'm trying not to think of as garbage bag-inspired. I love the dirty color jeans in shades of red and green. Their multiple appearances in the lookbook make the indigo offerings look like the novelty. A quick look at www.coutie.com shows the prices aren't as cheap as they once were (what's up with that?), but at retail they still fall just below premium price points.
