GUESS & GUESS by Marciano Holiday 2011 Preview
On Monday an event was held at the Mondrian Soho Penthouse unveiling the launch of the GUESS and GUESS by Marciano collection for Holiday 2011. I have to say, I was really impressed. Not only by the view which was stunning, or the barbecue wraps and burgers which were delish or the DJ who was awesome, but by this season's offerings which were fantastic.
For women, GUESS moved away from having too many indigo-dyed skinnies which are beyond generic at this point. Instead they experimented with the skinny silhouette in gingham checks, dark maroon velvets and khaki-colored twills. Also on hand were flares and a less baggy, more wearable version of the boyfriend jean. Overall there was a lot more variety in women's bottoms and the sportswear and accessories were the perfect compliment.
Men, who are notoriously more resistant to change, can rest assured that their old standbys are still available. Slim straight silhouettes were the dominant fit and came in a variety of washes and finishes from heavily abraded to clean and coated.
GUESS by Marciano was on display on the terrace and was full of sparkly dresses and eveningwear. Although it's not the core of their offerings there were a couple of pairs of jeans on display. One was a bright blue overdyed and the other a leopard print indigo which may have been done with a laser.
An honorable mention should go to the black blazer which looked basic on the outside but when the sleeves were rolled-up revealed the GUESS script on the lining. Clever.
