Genetic Denim Fall 2011/Holiday 2012 Preview

Fashion Week is over, the press previews have started and the busiest season for denim bloggers has just kicked off. Genetic Denim was one of the first brands I visited --holding a press preview in their midtown office. Although I have known of Genetic Denim for a while, this was my first time previewing their collection, so I was curious to see what they would be offering.

There were two seasons for viewing, Fall 2011 which will hit stores soon, and Holiday. I started with Holiday because right away the fabrications caught my eye. There was plenty of color which didn't surprise me, however, what did surprise me was the presence of color in flares --some of which were treated with a light coating. I have to admit, I never would have thought of doing that to a flare leg jean. That's a good thing for those that love this silhouette because when a product starts to evolve that's a sure sign it's here to stay. Also in the mix were skinnies designed to make a statement such as those with allover sequins or embroidery meant to imitate croc skin. I personally tend to go on the safe side with jeans but I could definitely see myself wearing these and will definitely be looking for them when they hit stores

All the fun didn't start at Holiday (I say 'start' because technically Fall will be retailing first). The Fall season had plenty of covetable items. Colorful cords were plentiful in updated silhouettes. There were even a pair of corduroy shorts. Yes, Fall shorts will not be going anywhere anytime soon. A collaboration between Genetic Denim and stylist Estee Stanley produced dresses and trousers made with a loosely constructed indigo-dyed fabric. The items were embellished with vicious looking spikes that would make a man think twice about putting his arm around you.

Last but not least, mens jeans were made of the softest denim I have felt in menswear to date. A favorite of mine was the inky blue jean which had a similar wash as a women's skinny. It felt as if it was brushed and had the nicest hand to it. As rugged as most men like to think they are, they will have a hard time not touching themselves when wearing these jeans. Pun completely intended.
