PROJECT New York - Fremont, Marshall Artist, Simon Miller, Ernest Alexander
Today I'll be heading over to Capsule, but first wanted to share some of the key items and labels from PROJECT New York. Ernest Alexander's entire aesthetic of chambray button-front shirts, denim and suiting look fresh and wearable, giving new life to heritage workwear ideals. Men's accessories such as handkerchiefs, suspenders and bow-ties add just the right touch of charm and color. Durable day and overnight bags remain important at the label, and complete the well merchandised collection.
Fremont's shirting and knits were big hits at PROJECT yesterday, including a light blue, softened denim version with flap chest pockets. Evolving from classic chambray looks, the green speckled yarn-dye button-front has an unexpected raspy, dry hand. A diamond-quilted checked shirt in rust and navy has "old favorite" appeal, and is sure to be a purchase of mine next season.
Not wanting to mess with something that's already spot on, Simon Miller's designers left their perfected denim fits alone (the jeans look great on many different body types and work for all ages), putting their attention on knits this season. The honeycomb sweater, is completely hand-knit and takes six days to make. Hand detailing and an artisan focus is key at the brand, however, prices are very competitive.
Marshall Artist's denim and waxed jacket adopts vintage functional elements. Button tabs, deep chest and side pockets with drain holes and a drawstring waist with leather accents complement the updated anorak silhouette. Modernizing traditional oilskin treatments, the hand of the waxed fabric is more rigid and chalky, creating visible crease marks on the somewhat translucent surface.
