LUCKY BRAND Spring/Summer 2013

The exotic jet-set vibe of LUCKY BRAND's Spring/Summer 2013 collection was an unexpected delight this week. I often deem the brand's demographic as young, so was psyched to see such a refined, upscale and cohesive collection. While everyone is doing color for the sake of doing color, Lucky creates a story behind it, offering rich spicy pigments and dyes. From Marrakech to Monaco to Mykonos, the label pulls cultural references and current street style impulses from a range of far-flung locales.

 

Denim-of-the-Day: All in the Details

This novel back construction with lined flap over pockets is fantastic. In lightweight denim, cotton twill or chambray, this pant detail could work next spring in relaxed workwear or prairie silhouettes for both guys and girls.

APC x CARHARTT Fall/Winter 2012

Merging a Paris streetwear aesthetic with classic workwear, this collaboration between APC and CARHARTT epitomizes the "premium rugged" looks sweeping menswear this season. Classically Carhartt russet gold carpenter pants look refined in a slimmer APC silhouette. A camp vest and coat, as well as the shearling-lined jacket, offer a more spartan take on outdoorsy woodsman styles. Both brands are big on collaborations. I am currently loving the white-on-white APC x NIKE kicks, but sadly missed the boat on getting my size.

 

KAPITAL Indigo Cotton Sweater

I love this cotton Guernsey sweater, complete with boat neck and engineered stitch patterning… nice break away from the Fair Isle trend that is exhausting retail floors. And check out how the pattern of the orange pocket matches up with the torso.

Denim-of-the-Day: Patchwork Chambray

I love this check-paneled chambray and denim patchwork fabric with exaggerated hand stitching. While its pretty out-there for a shirt, I would love it for women's Spring/Summer 13 shorts.

Paisleys, graphic florals and ornate wallpaper patterns look fresh in a range of pastels and plays between neutrals and indigos.

LA streetwear label PUBLISH merges archival militarywear with modern urban attitude for its Fall/Winter 2012 "Officer and a Gentleman" collection. Outdoorsy flannel shirts, down vests and camp prints are cut slim, forging elegance into layered street looks. I like the elasticized hems on the trousers; worn right, they reign in volume, looking tailored yet remaining masculine and casual.
