In the Showrooms: Not Your Daughter's Jeans "NYDJ" Spring 2013 and Fall 2013 Preview

NYDJ otherwise known as "Not Your Daughter's Jeans" has come a loonnng way since we first saw them in Spring 2011. Back then they only had a handful of silhouettes and finishes, mostly slim cuts in varying shades of indigo, and their main selling point was the "lift tuck" technology meant to flatter curves. Fast forward to Spring 2013 and there are racks and racks of finishes ranging from tiedyes, laser prints, florals, herringbones, animal prints and a sea of color. The woman who wants to have great curve-flattering jeans but not dress like her daughter has gotten a lot more sassy. And good for her!

For Fall the same is true; tons and tons of styles and washes. The jacquard jean was my favorite. It would have been much easier to create this style in a print, and that's what makes it special. Doing a jacquard weave is pricier, but it's so much more authentic and you can't beat the texture and three-dimensional effect. And let's talk about coatings! I've seen them in several brands for Fall and NYDJ is no exception. I have to say, I mistakenly thought a year or so ago that this trend was a passing fad, but I was wrong. Coatings are still going strong, and to the leather industry that has seen the leather legging surge in popularity, you're welcome.

Last but not least, there were tops galore. Seriously, at this point NYDJ could open a standalone shop. I said as much to Deanna Herron, Design Director and she hinted that it might be a possibility (see her in head to toe NYDJ below). Just remember, you heard it here first. Standouts for Spring were the drapy, color-blocked tops. I tried on one in a pale pink and grey color and it fit fantastically. And I absolutely adored the mixed-media print tunic for Fall. For sure, it will be a sellout when it hits stores.

Not Your Daughter's Jeans is going to make their customer base very happy with this new collection and they for sure will have many, many more new fans as well. The daughter's perhaps.
