In the Showrooms: Levi's Fall/Winter 2013 Preview

Levis Curve ID, models

Levi's held a preview of their Fall/Winter 2013 collection at Milk Studios and there was so much to see that it's hard to know where to start. On display was the Levi's main collection, the Red Tab line, Levi's Made & Crafted, smaller collections like Curve ID, the Commuter Series and a new Waste>Less project made from recycled bottles. See what I mean? A lot. But with Levi's, so much thought goes into their designs (and the presentation) that it's always a pleasure to view their workmanship.

This season, Levi's Red Tab was inspired by Texas and Japan. The idea was to take Levi's "Icons" (their most iconic heritage items) and mesh them with elements of japanese culture. What they came up with was a line cheekily described as "Tokyo Texas". Love that! In the collection were jean jackets and denim shirts designed with kimono sleeves as well as quilted, mixed-media denim in patchwork designs.

The Made & Crafted collection was like fabric porn! It was super impressive and I spent a lot of time browsing through the line and touching everything (see Instagram for more pics).  The look was of homespun fabrics in ultra-modern designs. Reversible items or just those that had a party on the inside was a repeated concept. My absolute favorite piece was a wool structured jacket. My first thought when I saw it was "This is Levi's?!" Ahmayzing collection!

Levi's is continuing a few of their most successful and innovative programs. Waste<Less is an offshoot of their Water<Less line from several seasons ago, but whereas the latter was all about using less water, Waste<Less is all about recycling. The technology takes recycled bottles, converts it into fiber, blends it with cotton and voila!..clothing! Why stop there. Dye the jeans in bright Fall colors and you have a full-on statement item (see the vine vid). Also, on hand was the Commuter Series with jeans that feature reflective stripes on the inside; promotes cuffing and safety. Inneresting concept!

With all of the other projects it's a wonder Levi's has time for their main collection. But they do and there is everything you'd expect and then some. Of course there were printed jeans and bright colors in skinnies, but also on hand were coated denim jackets, denim dresses with lace overlays and beautiful blouses. You know, I never thought of this before, but you could wear head to toe Levi's and be the coolest kid/hipster/fashionista on the block!
