Know What a 'Tuck Under' is? Lea Michele Does it in Citizens of Humanity Jeans

Lea michelle

Lea Michele was spotted at the Staples Center recently attending a King's hockey game. She looked good. As usual. No big deal. What grabbed my attention, however was the party at her ankle. No, not her sky high shooties (do we still use that term?), but the fact that her skinnies are tucked under at the ankle instead of hemmed. Just this past weekend I went to Easter brunch at a friend's, and after it was brought up that I write about denim, a few of the short-statured guests asked me, with just the tiniest touch of heat, why all jeans are made for tall people. My response was, well, it's easier for a short person to hem than a taller person to add fabric. They agreed, although they still looked a little disgruntled about the whole thing. Then they started discussing vigorously among themselves all the techniques they use to get around hemming and one of the girls said she loved jeggings because she could just do a tuck under and the snug fit held it in place. I was floored (although I didn't show it. Didn't want to lose my denim cred). First, I didn't realize that there was a whole culture of petite women who tried to find ways to get around hemming. And second, a tuck under? It's so basic and so brilliant. I thought about putting out a question on twitter asking if other people do this, but then Lea Michele hits my inbox with, guess what, a tuck under. She's clearly about 20 degrees separated from our little group and now my question is answered.

If you're curious, Lea is wearing the Citizen's of Humanity Avedon Skinny in "Royal" wash.
