My American Eagle Awakening
When I got invited to preview American Eagle's Spring/Summer 2014 collection and their lingerie line Aerie, I was stoked because it was the first time I'd been given a preview of the brand. However, I must say that I was also very cautious. Although American Eagle is wildly popular, I didn't have personal experience shopping there. My college days are long behind me and I'd always assumed that that was their target market. Because of this, I didn't want my first-time excitement to cloud my judgement as has happened in the past. I was determined to view it with a critical eye and give an honest assessment of what I felt about the collection. So here goes... I loved it. It was fantastic, exclamation point!
American Eagle definitely has a youthful aesthetic and there was for sure a beachy vibe to the collection, but if you look at the pieces individually, as opposed to collectively, there are some terrific finds. Let's start with the jeans. As you know fit is everything. Again, I have no experience with American Eagle so I assumed that because of the low price points that the fits would be generic. Meaning they would fit decently, but you would be sacrificing something for price such as gapping at the waist or a too long leg or a mid-rise that's on the low side. I'm speaking from experience. In this case I was wrong. Look at the photo below. They fit her great, no? I haven't worn a pair myself, but just from eyeballing them the fit seems comparable to premium brands. I'll have to try a pair now. I already have my eye on two that have super cool bleach effects and distressing that I am so looking forward to putting a few of my jetsetting jeans girls in.
As you know from my Instagram (see DenimHunt on Instagram) I've been all about slip-on shoes and accessories lately and I would definitely add the colorful low tops (below) to my collection. There was also a marled gray sweater that was in the menswear collection, but gender be damned, I'd so wear it.
So I guess I'm a convert. I love American Eagle. Wow! Times they are a-changin'. Keep checking back for the Aerie collection.
