In the Showrooms: D-iD Jeans
Denim jackets with hoods or dolman sleeves, jeans with quilt stitching or 90's style bleach-outs, patchwork shirts and rebel vests; these unconventional details were all found in D-iD's Spring/Summer 2014 collection.
When I was first introduced to D-iD last season, I was fascinated by the quilt stitching on the jeans (see D-iD Airstream Trailer and Harlequin Jeans). It was new. Something I hadn't seen before. I thought to myself, if I see another brand with quilt stitching on their jeans, I'll know where it originated from. Simultaneously I thought to myself, I wonder if they will be able to continue this into the next season. When the novelty wears off, people may find the stitching hard to wear.
Well, here we are a season later and I have seen another denim brand add quilt stitching to their most recent collection (I won't say who). It's hard to say if it's an emerging trend yet, but there's a lot of overlap in the denim industry and getting "inspiration" from rivals is common. And yes, they did continue the quilt stitching into their second season, with a few tweaks; the quilting is smaller and the stitching creates more contrast.
And as far as them being hard to wear, well, I have worn them (see DenimHunt on Instagram). No better way to see how they will blend into a wardrobe than actually blending them into your wardrobe. The verdict: not only are they comfortable, I mean super, amazingly comfortable, but the fit is great and it wasn't toooo hard to wear them. Admittedly, you still have to be careful. They aren't your everyday knockaround jeans. Solid color tops, in any color work best. However, with mixed media prints and fabrics trending right now I could easily see a graphic tee or animal print being pared with them.
