Marc Newson and G-Star RAW Celebrate a Decade of Design Together
It has been ten glorious years for G-Star RAW and industrial designer Marc Newson in their longtime, ongoing collaboration G-Star RAW x Marc Newson. That's reason to celebrate right? Well celebrate they did at London's Design Museum.
In true G-Star fashion, the celebration documented the decade-long collab by combining artwork with glass-compressed garments in custom flight cases for a museum style exhibit that displayed both the brand's and Newson's visionary approach to, well, everything.
“I think it is admirable that G-Star has the vision to embrace one industry’s ability to learn from another. They understand that design is a way of a company differentiating itself.”-Marc Newson
G-Star apparel is heavily influenced by industrial design which by it's very nature is innovative. Therefore, it's no wonder that the collaboration with Newson has worked so well. The G-Star RAW x Marc Newson collection harnesses Newson's prowess as an industrial designer by showcasing seasonal capsule collections that are both experimental and wearable. Case in point, the fall anniversary collection includes the 'Reversible Tour Jacket' -a bomber jacket that features patch decals that duplicate actual artwork from Newson's past collections on one side and reverses to a black quilted minimalist jacket on the other.
When visiting the showroom I gushed embarassingly over this jacket. Photos don't do it justice and it really is something that has to be seen in person to fully appreciate (see G-Star RAW Fall Brings Women's Selvedge, Leather T-Shirts for Men & Pharrell!). But I think Rita Ora and Cara Delavinge would agree with me as both have been photographed in it (above). Lucky stiffs.
For the rest of us plebes the collection won't be available until October, but a few fans can get a jumpstart by shopping e-boutique oki-ni where it will be available exclusively the whole month of September.
