Levis Releases "Made in Japan" Collection Inspired by America
Levi's, the most iconic of American denim brands, just released a Made in Japan collection which, ironically, is inspired by American iconography. As odd as it may sound to the average person, denimheads know that some of the best denim in the world is Japanese denim produced on vintage American looms.
The Made in Japan collection is not new, but up until now it was only available in Japan. For it's worldwide release the Levi's design team worked with a range of Japanese artists, such as batik artist and colorist Yogu, to create jeans that feature reinforced patches and unique finishing techniques like snow-bleaching. I have no idea what that is, but it sounds hella cool.
Keen-eyed denimheads will notice the inclusion of the classic 501's and 513 straight-fit jeans which purportedly take inspiration from Yosemite Park in California. Actually, it takes a really keen eye, but inspiration can be found in the most unusual places. A Barstow Western shirt and hand-printed t-shirts by Yogu round out the collection.
Made in Japan will only be available in select Levi's stores, but it should be popping up online pretty soon.
