Hello Modcloth! Meet DenimHunt

It's been a while since I've created a set on Polyvore so when Modcloth approached me about creating a set around their Shoreline Memories cotton dresses for their "Uniquely You" campaign I couldn't resist.

It's a cute cotton dress don't you think? I love the  windowpane plaid and sunny yellow ribbon. It exudes a classic charm. I decided to play off that charm but add some whimsical fun shown particulary in accessories like panda flats and a hummingbird watch.

What do you think?

I can't wait to see the other interpretations.

Need it! Want it! Have to Have It!: Three Ways to Wear This Fab Anthropologie Blouse

anthropologie, Brecon Chambray Buttondown, denim shirt, blouse spring 2014

I don't often shop in Anthropologie. It's a great store. I always go inside the 5th Avenue location when I walk past it. However, I'm rarely able to find something that fits into my personal style; with the exception of a beautiful maroon dress I bought several years ago which I still love.

Erin Shows Off Her Wintery Style in DL1961 Slim Boyfriend Jeans #thejetsettingjean

Slim boyfriend jeans are always presented as a spring jean and are guaranteed to be promoted in lookbooks and ads for that season. Styling them usually consists of pairing them with a slim tee and flat shoes or sneakers, or dressing them up with a blazer and pumps. Basically anything to show off the ankle and feminize the roomy silhouette.

Erin, an Art Therapist based out of Brooklyn, posed for us in a pair of slim boyfriend jeans by DL1961 at Rockefeller Center. I love how she styled them. Erin eschewed the flats and heels for a pair of supple leather boots. A practical choice I might add considering how cold it was. I loved how Erin tucked the jeans in at times and at other times untucked them showing off the cropped length with the boots as reference. Brilliant!

In between shooting, we admired the Christmas tree and the Swarovski replica of the star atop it; a rare thing to do for native New Yorkers. We tend to stay out of heavy tourist areas.

See more pics of Erin showing off her Brooklyn style in front of some of these famous Christmas landmarks after the jump.

Erin wore a pair of DL1961 'Riley' jeans, an Anthropologie blouse (similar), Frye boots (similar), a key charm necklace from Catbird (similar) and a DKNY coat (similar).

Fun With Florals by Who.A.U. #thejetsettingjean

Shanna McKinnon, Jetsetting Jean, WHO.A.U. floral prints, best floral jeans, shopping, style, fashion

Contrary to my somber face in some of these photos (I have to learn to smile more) I'm having quite the time wearing these floral printed jeans.

I spotted them on my first visit to WHO.A.U.'s midtown store and had to have them for a Jetsetting Jean feature. What caught my eye was the vintage look of the floral print. It's sort of like an old chintz couch with a tea-dyed background from an English garden, no?

Because all of the interest is below the waist I decided to keep everything else fairly simple. By contrast, Aisha, a jetsetting jean mainstay (see Aisha Mixes Metal and Camouflage in WHO.A.U.) went for a more dressier approach (preview her look here).

I wore the WHO.A.U. vintage floral jeans (store info) with a Nasty Gal 'Celine Pocket' blouse, Tahari blazer and Nine West 'Vintage America Collection' brogues (similar)

What do you think?

Syncia Mixes Luxe and Low in NYDJ #thejetsettingjean

nydj, black coated jeans, celine, valentino, jetsetting jean, syncia, nydj, celine boston bag, valentino rockstuds, christopher whyte fur, george rech, hermes scarf, urban outfitters, street style, jetsetting jean, denimhunters

It's so easy to just take a pair of jeans and wear them myself and take photos. Actually, I'm lying. It's not so easy. I don't know how those other bloggers do it everyday. For me, it's much easier to give a pair of jeans to someone else and let them style them. Lazy? hmm, maybe. I prefer clever.

I gave Syncia a pair of black coated jeans from NYDJ. They have a quilted panel on the side that gives them extra flavor and I couldn't wait to see how she styled them. Never one to disappoint (I'm always borrowing her shoes) Syncia went for bold color, bold accessories (in bold color) and took layering to a whole other level, and expertly I might add.

I think it may be a first for me to see a fur cape, layered over a navy blazer, layered over a patterned silk scarf, layered over an orange blouse. Sooo well done! And although it's hard to tell in the photo the studs in her shoes complemented the quilted paneling nicely.

I'm so looking forward to seeing how my next subject styles them.

Syncia wore a pair of NYDJ 'Antonia' coated leggings with (bottom to top) Valentino 'Rockstud' shoes, Celine 'Boston' bag, Banana Republic 'pintuck crepe' blouse, Urban Outfitters belt (similar), Hermes scarf, George Rech blazer (similar), Christopher Whyte fur (faux option)

Aisha Mixes Metal and Camouflage in WHO.A.U. #thejetsettingjean

Who.A.U. aisha, camouflage, best camouflage cargo skinny jeans 2013

So let me tell you a story. It's a very good story...

Several times this year, while walking down 34th Street between Herald's Square and Penn Station, a particular shop across the street from Macy's kept making it's way into my peripheral vision. So much so that I developed a minor fixation on it. It could have been the perplexing name, WHO.A.U. or simply the distinct orange background on which it was typed. I can't say. But for whatever reason, no matter how zoned out I was, I always managed to come out of my trance as soon as I walked passed it. It happened so often that I had this little game I played in my head where I tried to figure out how to pronounce the name; Who Ahh You? Who Are You? Who You? Who Australia? I think this little ritual actually kept me from walking inside to see the merchandise. It became like a game of make believe. A mystery. A guessing game of what could be in the shop with the curious name. To actually go in would have meant ruining the game and making my special little shop just another retailer in a block full of them.

#nofilter in Central Park

shanna mckinnon, denimhunt, habitual jeans, best coated jeans

I had the perfect weekend. The sun was shining as bright as summer, but there was a cool breeze that lent a nice crispness to the air. It was a day meant to enjoy and many people were out taking advantage. Normally I would take the opportunity to go for a run (fall and spring have the most perfect running weather), but instead I decided to go for a walk. Walks aren't my usual thing. I consider myself a kinetic personality that bores easily. As soon as I start a walk for recreation, I begin concentrating on the finish, and then my leisurely walk turns into a brisk walk until next thing I know, I'm wishing I decided to run instead.

This time I planned for that and instead of listening to my usual playlist, I played classical music on Pandora. I thought the change of tunes would calm my frenetic brain, which in turn would help me just relax and enjoy the scenery. It did. What an experience! I've never really listened to classical music although it's been recommended to me numerous times. Listening to it in broad daylight while strolling around the Harlem Meer and Botanical Gardens in Central Park was akin to being in the middle of my own independent film score. It was really quite amazing and relaxing. I will definitely be making a habit of this.

While there, I decided to stop for a few photos. I wasn't planning on it. Therefore I was at my most casual, which probably makes these the most honest pics I've taken in a while. #nofilter means no makeup, my trusty-dusty stinky Converse, a pair of Habitual coated jeans in Chocolate, a Marc by Marc Jacobs coat that is in dire need of dry cleaning and accessories from Beyond Rings and Scotch & Soda.

THE JETSETTING JEAN: A Finance VP, RN and IT Tech Style Lucky Brand Jeans' "Ginger" Skinny

THE JETSETTING JEAN:

Premium denim has been a force in fashion for over a decade now, but there's still a certain demographic that is largely left out of enjoying the benefits of a pair of great fitting jeans... plus-sized women (and men I suppose). I can think of few premium brands that cater to curvy girls, and with the most frequently worn size being a 14, that's a lot of consumer dollars these companies are passing up. Not to mention the gals whose style prowess we are being kept from seeing. But not today...

Lucky Brand Jeans has launched a plus-sized line for women and we got our hands on a pair of Lucky's "Ginger skinny" with a laser printed floral. Styling them are women from very different walks of life -healthcare, finance and information technology. They all raved at how great the fit was and how it hugged their curves at all the right places. I myself noted how lengthy their gams looked in them.

Scroll below to see how they styled them and visit Lucky's website to get their latest Ginger skinnies
