Best Camo Shoes for Spring 2014

 

From runway to realway, camouflage is so hot right now. So much so that it has gone beyond jeans and jackets and can now be found in accessories like handbags and footwear.

While I love seeing the utilitarian print interpreted on handbags like the Valentino Rockstud (above), I'm still reluctant to carry one. That reluctance, however, doesn't apply to footwear. From Nike sneakers to Stella McCartney loafers, camo can be found in all manner of styles in all manner of materials and colors.

G-Star RAW Fall Brings Women's Selvedge, Leather T-Shirts for Men & Pharrell!

 

I had to ask multiple times if G-Star RAW hired a new creative director and I was told multiple times that they had not. The reason I asked was because there was a subtle difference in te-knit he fall collection than in the past. Yes, there are still the signature G-Star shapes and constructions that are at the core of the brand but I found myself gushing more than usual over certain items, in particular the cable-knit sweater that was fused with a layer of fabric atop it (above). At first I thought it was an embossed neoprene, but after taking a closer look I was amazed. Then there were the selvedge jeans for women and leather t-shirts for men. 

Coming for fall is a surprise collaboration. Pharrell Willliams has taken on the role of creative director for a capsule collection using bionic yarn called RAW For the Oceans. I wasn't able to snap pictures of the samples but if you're a Pharrell fan, and I know you are, you won't be disappointed. Watch this space for updates.

Get the Look: Emmy Rossum's Pink and Denim Fusion

  

 

 

Emmy Rossum's free-spirited, ladylike style is rather easy to emulate. The Shameless actress prefers simple, effortless pieces to create her looks, which she then tops off with a blaze of color like this fuschia moto jacket by J brand (above) with lips to match, or a hard to find accessory. 

Emmy is a flirty dress type of girl when she's out and about, quite the opposite from her character in the show. It's nice to see her translating her personal style around a pair of dark indigo, cigarette leg jeans. So much so, that I wanted to recreate her look.

Lily Aldridge Looks Like That in XOXO...

 

 

If Sports Illustrated cover girl Lily Aldridge looks like that in XOXO, I wonder what it will do for me? Delusional, sure, but isn't that what we all are thinking? I know, I know...Marketing 101. But did you ever think you'd be thinking such things about XOXO?

It's been a long while since the brand has had my attention as a competitive brand. Once popular in the 90's, fast fashion chains like H&M and Forever 21 have long since stolen the spotlight, and the customers, from department store juniors' brands, but as I always say, fashion is cyclical and every once-forgotten brand can leverage it's obscurity to stage a tremendous comeback.

Is this the case with XOXO? Well, let's look at the facts. Correction, the fact (singular). Lily Aldridge. The Victoria's Secret beauty recently shared the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, an achievement that can be described as winning one of the Triple Stakes of modeling (Campaigns, Media, Runway). With her soon to be a mainstream name, if not a household name, XOXO's use of her as the face of their campaign is pretty smart. 

With that said, a comeback is nothing without substance, and in this case the substance is the clothing. So will the product meet the hype? Well, that remains to be seen.

Shamelessly Overanalyzing Rihanna's Balmain Spring 2014 Campaign

Old news. Yes. Rihanna's latest foray into fashion has been news for 24 hours already. It's rare for me to cover uber-luxury brands, expensive gowns kinda don't fit with the whole DenimHunt thing, but I couldn't help but notice Rihanna in a high fashion, and super edgy take, on denim on denim in one of the campaign ads for insanely overpriced luxury brand Balmain. Looking at the images, at first glance I thought, love her hair. At second glance I thought, who would wear that?. At third glance I thought, I think I would wear that.

So Let's Talk About Gisele Bundchen 'Multitasking'...

 

I mean, who's multitasking here? Gisele or her staff? I see a woman in the most enviable position of relaxing in a chair breastfeeding her baby while everyone works around her to make her more beautiful than she already is. Well, in her defense she does acknowledge the hard work of her staff and that she flew for 15 hours with only 3 hours of sleep. Therefore, holding a baby with one arm, while holding out the other for a manicure is very understandable. But is it multitasking? I'm not quite sure. On the other hand, if it is, I wish I could multitask like Gisele.

#ALLIWANT is Everything! Chiara Ferragni Wears Guess Holiday

I remember the first time I'd heard of Italian blogger Chiara Ferragni otherwise known as The Blonde Salad. It was several years ago at a blogger's conference during New York Fashion Week. She was one of five speakers on a panel that also included Wendy Lam of Nitrolicious. The panelists spoke on a topic I can't quite remember. Actually I don't remember at all. I do, however, remember that both Chiara and Wendy were very shy and quiet compared to the other panelists. I also remember what they both wore and isn't that all that matters? After all, what a personal style blogger says has more to do with her appearance than what comes out of her mouth and out of the five panelists they were the only two I remember. (For the record, Chiara wore red leather pants, a black top and a wide brim fedora over her much blonder hair and Wendy wore a black dress with these sick cobalt blue chunky heels that had a mohawk fringe that ran down the back of the shoe) Fast forward to the present and Chiara is taking over the world (or at least taking over the spot vacated by Bryanboy). For what she lacks in loquaciousness she makes up in spades with her photogenic looks and killer style.

With that said, it's no wonder that Guess has chosen her for their All I Want is Everything digital holiday campaign. Shot in Beverly Hills at the Maison 140 Hotel, Chiara takes the Guess holiday collection and dresses it up in her signature style. If you're follow her blog, you'll also note the signature poses. It's hard to pick a favorite look out of the bunch. Chiara wears them so well. But I do love how she paired the floral dress with boots.

Behati Prinsloo and THVM to Launch Denim in Spring 2014

 

The luckiest girl alive, Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo, is collaborating with THVM to create an exclusive ready-to-wear denim collection based on her everyday street style. 

No photos are available yet, but there are a few products I'm looking forward to seeing based on description alone. Those are the patchwork boyfriend jeans, the high-waisted skinny and a slouchy black and white striped trouser with zip closures at the ankle which is supposed to be Behati's favorite.

"Behati has great ideas and was very hands on in the creative process, so her personality really comes through. With this collection, you get to take a little bit of Behati home with you."

Through the din of EDM music, PHHHOTO booth gif bomb distractions and buzzing types sipping champagne admiring the #DIESELTRIBUTE collection, oh and a sighting of The Man Repeller herself Leandra Medine, I was able to chat with Diesel' Artistic Director Nicola Formichetti about the inspiration behind #DIESELTRIBUTE, his unconventional marketing campaign and his plans for the brand.

I know that you went through the archives for inspiration, but what specifically in the archives inspired this collection?

My big fashion show is in March and that's what I've been working on, creating a really big show. But that's in March and I couldn't wait for it. So I did a little teaser. I really wanted something denim because that's what Diesel is known for. It's their DNA. That's what I remember about Diesel from the '90s and late '80's. The first [#DIESELTRIBUTE] is denim and the leather one comes out in February. They're small capsules, very unisex and basically I just went into the factories and found old patches.

GUESS' New Global Campaign, Bollywood Actress Priyanka Chopra and Diversity in Fashion

 

GUESS has worked with some of the most iconic names in fashion and pop culture with past campaigns launching the careers of Claudia Schiffer and Anna Nicole Smith.  

In an interesting and quite strategic move I might say, GUESS has chosen Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra to be the face of the Holiday 2013 global advertising campaign. I didn't know much about Priyanka before, but Wikipedia fixed all that. Apparently, she's a big deal. Priyanka is one of the most popular celebrities in India and one of the highest paid actresses in Bollywood. She is also a former Miss World, a writer and a philanthropist. Being chosen to be a global brand ambassader for a company with a reach as large as GUESS could expand her popularity across the globe and could have positive results not just for her or the brand, but for the fashion industry as well.
