Denim Scarves for Winter through Spring

Ever since discovering a Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren scarf made entirely of denim while browsing a random mall in Virginia, I've become obsessed with the idea of denim scarves. A few years ago I would have thought the idea was cheesy, but now with denim infiltrating every area of fashion, and not to mention the pounding of snow we got yesterday, a scarf is really the final frontier.

Brands ranging from Louis Vuitton to small boutiques are just a sampling of brands that make denim scarves (or indigo-dyed alternatives) that are so chic and perfect for wrapping around your shoulders during winter winds or a light spring chill.

When art and fashion collide it is a glorious thing and when that collision occurs with denim, it is truly magnificent.

Contrary to what your eyes are telling you, the image above is not an illusion created by photoshop. It is actually a limited edition collaboration between artist Rob Pruitt and J Brand Jeans available exclusively at Barneys New York. At this point you're probably viewing the photo again trying to discern if I'm pulling your leg. I assure you it's real. Pruitt has perfected the art of gradient painting and is widely known for the technique.

Do Yoga in James Jeans?

James Jeans' "James Twiggy Dancer"

Sport denim is officially the new normal. James Jeans is the latest brand to come out with their own version of the hybrid jean -a crossover between the basic jean and athletic wear.

The seamless jean called the "Twiggy Dancer" is reminiscent of the jegging with it's super-slim fit and legging-like flexibility.  Unlike the jegging though, this jean is supposed to be more durable, or rather, as durable as a yoga pant. The yoga crowd will love the body-skimming fit to show of their lean muscular curves as well as the benefit of wearing something that's acceptable to go out in but feels like their regular yoga pants. 

Their available now on James Jeans' e-commerce site and come in basic washes with no fancy finishes or abrasions. 

 

Need It! Want It! Have to Have The UNIF Twerk Jean from Urban Outfitters

Ever since I saw someone last spring walking around the city in pair of jeans similar to this I've wanted a pair. I already know what you're thinking. Well, why didn't you just go ahead and make them then? But see that would require me to find a pair of old boyfriend jeans I'm ready to toss or go out and purchase a pair of suitable jeans that won't cause me to shed tears as I go to town on them with a pair of scissors. Neither was an option. And honestly, I'm just not the crafty type. I'd rather just buy my DIY you know what I mean.

If you can get past the unfortunate name, these jeans are perfect. They're available at Urban Outfitters which, much to my surprise, has a pretty decent denim selection. I've never even considered this DIY style on a mom jean and now that I've seen it, I think I like it better than what I originally envisioned.

Bethnals Ltd Does Classic Chic with Unisex Jeans and Nails It!

Crowdfunding has got to be the best thing that has happened to entrepreneurship since the world wide web and start-up brands have been taking full advantage of the promotional and financial benefits a crowdfunding strategy provides. 

London-based denim brand Bethnals Ltd is on a short list of brands on Kickstarter that have gotten my attention -specifically because they nail the whole casual but classic aesthetic. The denim painter's jacket epitomizes this and is one of my favorite pieces in their collection along with the relaxed fit selvedge jean. 

What's even more interesting is that many of their jeans are unisex. Founder Melissa Clements states matter-of-factly "why should men have to buy women’s jeans to nail the perfect skinny aesthetic? And who said women have to have a boyfriend to get just that – the ‘boyfriend’ fit?" You can't argue with logic. No wonder they've raised almost $19,000. 

For their launch they are releasing two unisex collections; 'Core' for those looking for great jeans and 'Selvedge' for traditionalists who are drawn to denim's heritage. Both collections come in skinny, straight and relaxed fits and are featured prominently on their Kickstarter page.

Need It! Want It! Have to Have These Maison Scotch Patchwork Jeans

When the patchwork trend came about a couple of seasons ago I loved it....but on everyone else, not me. I would describe my personal style as classic with a bit of an edge and I felt the look leaned a little too far on the edge side for my tastes.

Lately, the patchwork trend has evolved into a look that's a little more wearable and versatile. For example, this slim boyfriend by Maison Scotch keeps it simple with two large panels on the front that are slightly more bleached out then the rest of the jean. That's the edge I love in my pieces -not too much, but just enough to make a statement.

#JetsettingJean Preview: G-Star RAW Riley 3D Kate Tapered Jeans

 

Just got these G-Star RAW tapered jeans and I am in love.I've worn them a few times to see what works since it's a style I'm not used to wearing and let me tell you, they are definitely an attention grabber.

The inky indigo finish is so amazing and the 100% cotton construction is very sturdy (the way jeans are supposed to be). And most importantly, they go with Converses and heels. That's enough for me. Full review coming soon.

Best Camo Shoes for Spring 2014

 

From runway to realway, camouflage is so hot right now. So much so that it has gone beyond jeans and jackets and can now be found in accessories like handbags and footwear.

While I love seeing the utilitarian print interpreted on handbags like the Valentino Rockstud (above), I'm still reluctant to carry one. That reluctance, however, doesn't apply to footwear. From Nike sneakers to Stella McCartney loafers, camo can be found in all manner of styles in all manner of materials and colors.
