Wrangler Australia, We Heart You

wrangler europe, wrangler australia, spring summer 2014, ss14, jean shorts, jeans

Whenever I talk about Wrangler, I always want to announce "this is not America's Wrangler", because what they sell everywhere else is so much trendier.

Wrangler Australia's Spring/Summer 2014 lookbook is amazing and no it's not late. Remember seasons run different down undah. And it what's important down under must be different too because everything is high-waisted. Love.

Wrangler US has it's fans and if cowboy and cowgirl attire hits big again they'll be glad they remained steadfast in their resistance to change, but until then at least we have online shopping to cling to.

See more of Wrangler Australia.

Rialto Jean Project Brings Art Therapy to Denim Design

Rialto Jean Project, custom jeans, denim, paint, art therapy, jackson pollack
Rialto Jean Project repurposes vintage jeans for a good cause

There's been a growing trend among entrepreneurs in varying industries to incorporate philanthropy into the mission of their startups and it's always amazing to see the creative ways in which apparel designers give back.

Erin Feniger, Founder and Creative Director of the Rialto Jean Project has a unique approach to denim design. Feniger sources vintage denim from reputable brands such as Levi's and hand paints them in her Venice, California studio. The result is an entire line of artfully paint spattered jeans.

A quick look at the RJP site and I found three basic silhouettes -boyfriend, skinny and flare, all of which have a range of colors and styles. There's also a service for those who'd prefer to have jeans customized to their own personal tastes, but with every jean in the line being custom only the pickiest of customers would ever need such a service.

Proceeds from the jeans, which cost up to $200, goes to fund art therapy programs for children at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles which is documented on their website.

Their motto is "Denim Doing Good". I like it.

A Season Based on Alchemy - Amsterdams Blauw

Amsterdams Blauw, scotch & Soda, jeans, mens denim, fall 2014

Alchemy Blues, that's the theme for fall of Scotch & Soda's mens denim line Amsterdams Blauw. Alchemy as in earth, wind and fire. Seems far-fetched to create a theme around the classical elements for denim, but when I read the description it actually made sense.

"This season we were inspired by the ancient craft of alchemy and its endless pursuit of the fabled philosopher’s stone. We looked back to the days when alchemists strived to transform base materials into precious metals and found a strong link to the Denim enthusiast and his tireless hunt for the 'Indigo Holy Grail.'”

Makes sense to me. Make sense to you?

Brand to Watch: Waven

Waven, Jeans, t-shirts, boyfriend jeans, urban outfitters, acid wash, fall 2014

It's been a while since I've walked into an Urban Outfitters, but I think a trip may be in order. Between the Twerk Jean and this latest revelation, I think I've been missing out. Well, almost missing out -Waven is a brand new denim line that won't hit store shelves till August so I still have time.

Waven is the latest brand to became a part of the infinitely expanding denim universe. It's hard to stand out with so much competition, but I really dig the direction this brand is taking. There's a concentration on roomy fits or at least, boyfriend jeans are giving equal air time with skinnies which is a good thing. I'm ready to try anything that's not a skinny jean aren't you?

Of course it wouldn't be a denim lookbook if there wasn't a pop of something. Waven chose to go with acid wash. Love it in the skinny. Not so much in the boyfriend.

Scroll down to see the rest of the lookbook and tell me what you think.

Bethnals Ltd Does Classic Chic with Unisex Jeans and Nails It!

Bethnals LTD, Melissa Clements, jeans, london, unisex jeans, kickstarter, core, selvedge
Fun Fact: The name Bethnals originates from the Cockney Rhyming Slang for Jeans

Crowdfunding has got to be the best thing that has happened to entrepreneurship since the world wide web and start-up brands have been taking full advantage of the promotional and financial benefits a crowdfunding strategy provides.

London-based denim brand Bethnals Ltd is on a short list of brands on Kickstarter that have gotten my attention -specifically because they nail the whole casual but classic aesthetic. The denim painter's jacket epitomizes this and is one of my favorite pieces in their collection along with the relaxed fit selvedge jean.

What's even more interesting is that many of their jeans are unisex. Founder Melissa Clements states matter-of-factly "why should men have to buy women’s jeans to nail the perfect skinny aesthetic? And who said women have to have a boyfriend to get just that – the ‘boyfriend’ fit?" You can't argue with logic. No wonder they've raised almost $19,000.

For their launch they are releasing two unisex collections; 'Core' for those looking for great jeans and 'Selvedge' for traditionalists who are drawn to denim's heritage. Both collections come in skinny, straight and relaxed fits and are featured prominently on their Kickstarter page.

What do you think about Bethnals Ltd? Are you ready for unisex jeans?

MiH Jeans' Easy Breezy Nautical Spring

MIH Jeans, spring 2014, jeans, best jeans for spring

Easy, breezy, light and aspirational in its simplicity is how one would describe MiH Jeans’ latest collection.

Eschewing the usual spring formula of short shorts, ventilated jeans and color that reflects our changing mood, the collection contains extreme flares, jumpers and shorts that are perfect for vacations in Cape Cod or relaxing nautical weekends.

I’m especially fond of the oversized jackets and shirts, as well as the tonal indigo color palette. There are all manner of indigo shades from inky to bleached and it serves to sooth, especially when placed among the backdrop of sky blue waters.

Matiere Paris for Men, Yeezus and Me!

Matiere Paris, mens indigo dyed skirt pants kanye west

I'd never heard of Matiere until last week, but this is a mens brand I can totally get behind...for me. I am falling all over myself for those indigo-dyed asymmetrical skirt sweatpants. As I write that out I realize it just sounds weird and unwearable, but a picture speaks a thousand words and luckily I've got a few. So before I continue, scroll down and take a looksee.

Wrangler Fall and the Return of Grunge

womens mens wrangler europe fall 2014 grunge best jeans for fall 2014 90's grunge

How do  you feel about the return of 90's grunge? Wrangler Europe is taking it there for fall 2014 complete with high waist jeans and knee holes, so expect to see it make it's way stateside about a season or two after. Does that mean I think there's going to be worldwide adoption of the grunge again. No?

Denim is having a moment right now. Every fashion blog and magazine is covering it this spring and all styles are welcome. Adding this updated version of grunge is just another look to add to our wardrobe repertoire. I took a pass on it the first time around, but I'm ready for the redux. Are you?

Edwin Jeans' Spring Reinvention

Edwin best jeans for spring 2014 floral prints

Edwin where have you been? It's like you went on holiday and came back a whole new brand!

The print-heavy jeans and tops are so far removed from the original Edwin of the selvege edge and crooked backpocket stitch that it's hardly recognizable.

The tropical print crops (above) are not only a great floral print, but the melon-toned buds add an amazing pop of color. That color combination is duplicated on several pieces including shirts and shorts. Be that as it may, melon stands alone and it does in a high-waisted skinny jean.

Hmm, Edwin. I like the new you.

American Eagle & Aerie's Summer Tease

image from glossi.com

Are you ready for summer or just sick of the cold. It's without a doubt the latter for me. I've had it up to my eyeballs with the cold weather and summer (forget spring) just can't come fast enough.

American Eagle sent these teaser images of what they are going to be stocking this summer and it's got me longing for warmer climes. I'd even wear that hawaiian print shirt (above) if it would have any effect on the warm weather gods.

Until then we always have these photos. *sigh
