MiH for Shopbop, Resort 2012 Capsule Collection

For MiH Jeans's exclusive resortwear collaboration with Shopbop.com, creative director Chloe Lonsdale draws from the bohemian allure of the 1970s… in particular actress Anita Pallenberg’s unique sense of style during her travels with the Rolling Stones to Marrakesh’s iconic La Mamounia Hotel.

The collection embraces the pop culture of this period, merging retro jeans styles, decadent jet-set lifestyle looks and details reminiscent of the colorful souks and historical architecture of Morocco. Key pieces are the Marrakesh kick flare jean, the new Marrakesh short, and the cropped flare Monaco jean, all with braided embroidery in shades of blue, taupe, red and white. Sun-bleached mousseline blouses, tunics, and safari shirts complement the washed denim and chambray of the collection.

Kao Pao Shu does denim for Spring 2012

Well known for its crafted dresses and bags, womenswear label Kao Pao Shu is moving into denim for Spring 2012 with an edgy yet feminine capsule collection of premium Japanese selvedge styles in a variety of washes. Whether the skinny, the boyfriend or the relaxed fit, each piece is unique with slight variations to the enhanced satin ribbon detailing.

Civilianaire denim at Atrium New York

Civilianaire by Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman (founders of Lucky Brand) is coming to ATRIUM NEW YORK. The fully merchandised collection of classic Americana industrial- and military-inspired basics places emphasis on fine denim fits for both men and women. Designed with a purist sensibility, the Los Angeles-based line incorporates high-end Japanese denim and premium fabrics. Atrium is one of the few retailers debuting the line; check it out both online and at the Soho location.

Diesel "Fit Your Attitude" Women's Denim Collection, Spring/Summer 2012

 

Building upon today's DenimHunt theme on redesigned, quasi-custom denim fits for women (see preceding James Jeans Couture post), I wanted to highlight Diesel's rebranding initiative "Fit Your Attitude" of new jean cuts that specifically flatter women's bodies. All styles in the collection share a constructed belt area that allows the waist to sit comfortably on the hips; molded-to-the-body, double-stitched side seams (to balance the front and back); higher yokes and bigger back pockets (for an improved derrière); as well as common back patches and back pocket eagle design.

Below are details on the five new styles "for five new attitudes". They all feature unique washes, which (from a company with more than 30 years of experience in denim washing) hit their mark for next season.

BOOTZEE: jeans perfect for dressing up and to feel sensual and sophisticated; thin bootcut leg on a regular slim fit, with higher back pockets and a regular rise.

GETLEGG: slim-fit jeans with skinny legs but wider at the knee; higher back is perfect for free time and everyday life.

GRUPEE: super-slim-fit jean with a super-skinny leg and higher yoke; it draws inspiration from a strong, free-spirited woman on a sexy night out at the club.

HIGHKEE: fashionable, chic, “night around town” denim inspired by the 1950s; straight leg, slim fit, high waist, and taller back pocket to guarantee a great look at the back.

MYGUY: boyfriend jeans designed for the spontaneous and playful woman. Perfect for browsing a flea market on a Sunday morning, they feature a boyfriend-leg cut  (slightly tapered) and a relaxed fit with a low crotch.

James Jeans Couture Collection for Spring/Summer 2012

James Jeans is taking its mantra for “fits that complement all body types” further with its James Jeans Couture collection, which introduces new innovations in pattern manipulation, construction technique and fabric technology, as well as completely new material combinations and custom-designed, specifically placed details.

James Jeans Couture includes three redesigned classic silhouettes (skinny, straight and bootcut) in a variety of washes ranging from solid black and dark indigo to hand-sanded blue and classic white. Each silhouette has been designed to smooth, sculpt and slim a woman's figure, from the high waist to the lower hips and inner thighs. The enclosed sculpted yoke and pockets gently smooth out and lift the entire back hip and bottom. Pockets have been custom-tailored for each size and belt loops have even been specially placed. Available at exclusive US retailers in January 2012, each refitted, conscientiously designed style has:

• Contoured waistband to smooth stomach
• Trimmed inner thigh
• Redesigned pocket shapes and sizes (to slim the bottom)
• Specially constructed inner back yoke and pocket linings to sculpt the hips and bottom

New NSF denim washes for Spring/Summer 2012

NSF will feature a range of new denim washes for its Spring/Summer 2012 men’s collection. Men's denim designer Simon Miller, known for his expert cuts and craftsman approach, is invigorating the LA-based Japanese selvedge denim label with fresh treatments: the broken-in and extreme bleach-faded "Sycamore"; the similarly faded "Hillcrest" with painterly stain markings; the light 80s blue "Outpost"; the dark indigo, slightly abraded and creased "Camrose"; and the super white yet rugged "Knoll".

Denim Refinery Sale: redo your old denim

Denim Refinery is having a sale on its denim refurbishment and restyling services. I've yet to try these guys out, but I just may this holiday season, now with the 30% savings. From the before-and-after shots, it looks like they are adept at making some of my more dated denim items fresh for next year.

The Galaxy, Smog'd and Ombre treatments look very well done, and some of the custom paint jobs are super cool. I have a pair of almost-vintage YSL flares, which have never worked with my body type. Maybe with a little hem work and a new finish, I'll having something new for winter.

One more thing about flares. While I'm loving flares on the ladies right now, they are a hard sell for most men (myself included). That said, I do see some flares coming back for (mostly tall) guys with the right retro-yet-neo styling. But let's talk about that in 2012.
