A few days ago I was privileged to attend the first ever VH1 VIP Thursdays, an event held to showcase the VH1 Upfronts to digital producers, press and influencers. VH1 staffers kicked off the event by introducing themselves to the audience one by one before showing a really entertaining presentation featuring snippets of the new shows coming to VH1.

Each preview was unique and hilarious. The entire theatre was laughing like crazy at the new comedies and viewers are sure to have the same reaction when they drop later this year. One in particular that is sure to be a hit with the fashion set was Candidly Nicole. Candidly Nicole is Nicole Richie's latest reality show and covers what goes on in her daily life. There were a ton of laugh out loud moments and we even got to see a cameo of the great Lionel Richie! Another show chronicled naked people meeting and falling in love and the new season of LeAnn and Eddie set to premiere July 17th is going to be juicy.

Guest Blogger Fashion Brew Covers All Access Fashion Featuring 7 For All Mankind

Screen-shot-2011-10-04-at-8.10.27-PM

All Access Fashion exceeded my expectations. People often rag on fashion events in the DMV (D.C., Virginia, Maryland area) for not being up to standard in comparison to major cities like Los Angeles and New York. This show was one of the best shows I have seen in DMV. The presentation was flawless, and the staff did a great job with creating a high fashion atmosphere. Fashionable ushers policed seating. And yes there was an official looking guy who with a clip board which added a little flair. Although he was handing out directives to the seat assistants, he was extremely sweet and even spoke to guests individually to make sure they were comfortable. The stage and backdrop was flawless and very professional. I really admire Tyson’s Gallery for promoting fashion and making it accessible to the community. There were all types of activities like a fashion inspired painting lounge and in-store parties.  Leisure lounges provided areas for attendees to stretch their limbs and 7 For All Mankind even had a female  DJ spinning beats in the store’s front window. Did I mention that I love female DJs?!

To be honest, as a music lover, the  DJ is what prompted me to come in and explore. The scene was festive and models walked around mingling with guests. The Seven For All Mankind store even had a stylist from Vogue on hand to help select clothing! While there I bumped into Ashley Middleton, a senior special events manager at Vogue. She was super friendly and down to earth! And yes, don’t you wish you had her job?!

Kudos to the 7 For All Mankind store for a fun event! I love when brands get creative because I become more attracted to the clothing and what the ideaology is behind the brand…

Memory Lane: I love denim and I can still remember when I bought my first pair of Seven Jeans! They were A pocket jeans with orange stitching. I still have them and they are the most comfortable jeans I own. Seriously. And I own a lot of jeans…

Anyhow take a peek of some of the latest in-store styles. There were some amazing coats and chic sweaters for the fall

Guest Blogger Candice Batts: Breaking News! Financial Professionals wear denim too!

Dark denim (AG Jeans /Citizen of Humanity)

Why is this breaking news you ask? Well, my friend Shanna and I were speaking of this very thing recently. As a denim expert, I always pick her brain about the new trends in denim. Recently, we began to chat about the presence of denim in my office. I work at a very prestigious financial firm in the Global Wealth Management Division where we provide financial planning strategies to high net worth clients. Monday through Thursday our attire is what most would assume, corporate and professional. This specifically means that a designer suit for men and women is the standard and expected dress code as we interface with clients and conduct various meetings during the week. But, on Friday…we let our hair down a little.

1 Joes Jeans Chelsea 158 skinny Friday is usually our day to catch up on most of the administrative items that need to be attended to as well as prepare for the next work week. So now the question becomes: How is a hip, young financial professional supposed to rock denim to the office appropriately?  I suggest that both men and women stick to dark wash denim. Lighter denim looks too casual in an office setting, while darker denim presents a more professional demeanor. Ladies can easily pair it with a black blazer and white blouse mimicking their standard corporate attire. For those slightly less conservative, darker denim can allow you to wear this season's bold colors and prints in a manner that's more office appropriate. As far as the style is concerned, ladies should go with a bootcut jean. This style has begun to reemerge in popularity so there are a variety of options to explore. DL1961 and Joe's Jeans offer some great styles on the high-end while Express and Gap offer more affordable options. The more popular skinny jean can also be worn in the office, but be careful, the only assets that should get attention in a financial firm are the client's.

Straight leg styles are best suited for men in this setting, however more Picture 8fashionable types can go for the slim straight looks which are slightly more fitted. These styles can easily be paired with a blazer and a button-down shirt or even a pull-over sweater with a collared shirt. Great brands for men to consider are AG Jeans or J Brand Jeans who offer nice, clean styles and washes. Rule of thumb gentlemen, be sure that your jeans are not too baggy. As with women, the attention needs to remain on your good presentation. Baggy jeans give off the impression of laziness and it is important that your attire represents the hard-work you do in the office.

In both cases, the rule is to be sure to wear your denim with a ‘3-piece suit’ mentality. These outfits allow fashion forward professionals to inject their individual style and upgrade the normal financial professional uniform to an outfit that can take them from the office straight to a Friday afternoon happy hour without skipping a beat!

Luello.com Guest Blogs: Subtlety, The Correct Approach to Embellished Denim!

Rhinestones, chains, ribbons, skulls, studs, lace and ribbons. So many bad things happen to good denim. These materials, when used to embellish denim, don’t just say “tacky”- they scream it. They give other, more tasteful forms of embellished denim a bad name, and have people running towards the simplest of denim washes out of the sheer fear of potentially being associated with the hideously embellished jeans.

While the fashion-conscious out of us will instinctively avoid these embellished trends (with good reason, as they sound eerily reminiscent of the fashions worn on Jersey Shore) there is a way to wear embellished denim without looking incredibly tacky. Just remember: subtlety is key.

Embellished jeans don’t have to mean over-the-top, entirely attention-demanding styles. You can wear jeans that have a little pop, that aren’t entirely bare and classic, without looking like a fool! Take brands like Rock Revival and Blank NYC. The jeans produced by these brands aren’t simply the classic, simple pair of jeans with pockets and nothing else, but they are only slightly embellished for a tasteful, but never boring look. Rock Revival’s signature detailed flap-pockets, featuring heavy stitching and fleur-de-lys patterns, as well as their big, detailed buttons serve as poignant embellishment that bring a spark of originality to your denim. Blank NYC, specifically the Skinny Studs Denim in Black, provide jeans with sparse embellishments that nonetheless make a statement.

Rather than wearing denim entirely covered in studs, patterns or rhinestones, opt for brands like Rock Revival and Blank NYC, where embellishment is employed but sparsely, ensuring that your denim is both exciting and tasteful. There’s no reason to avoid embellished denim- just as long as you steer clear of excessive rhinestones and things of the like.
