Levi's Creates a Field of Jeans out of the 49ers Football Field

Levis Stadium Field of Jeans
Levi's Stadium - Home of the San Francisco 49ers

Two weeks, 18,850 pairs of jeans and 1 football stadium -those were the components used to create Levi's "Field of Jeans" at the Levi's Stadium in San Francisco.

The project was a joint venture between Levi's and Goodwill in an effort to raise awareness for recycling and keeping used clothing out of landfills. This effort alone kept 12 tons of textiles out of landfills which reduced CO2 emissions by 175,000 pounds. According to Levi's, that's the equivalent of driving roundtrip cross country from NY to San Francisco 36 times. Crazy.

Guess Who Made Levi's Top 10 list of Must-Follow Twitter Accounts?

Yours truly of course! It's such an honor to be included on a list compiled by Levi's who undoubtedly is the trailblazer of the blue jean. Although I don't often cover my own personal style, it's rare for me to be seen in anything other than jeans and I truly love talking about fashion from a denim point of view. As 2014 winds to a close, just know that 2015 is going to be explosive as we work hard on the back end to bring you an updated format and more content that you're going to love. In the meantime, keep loving fashion and living in your jeans!

You'll Be Looking For These Jeans in the Future

The "Scratch Jean" by ISKO as part of their Spring 2015 denim innovations display at the Gansevoort Penthouse

Many of you have probably never heard of ISKO, but if you have more than a few jeans in your closet you're probably wearing their denim.

ISKO's mills supply the denim for many top brands like GUESS, Hudson and 3x1, but they most famously are the suppliers of the denim used in Diesel's Jogg Jean collection. That soft knit-like jean that has created a whole new category and plenty of copy cats is the proprietary technology of ISKO. If you look inside the of the Jogg Jean you will see the ISKO logo printed prominently alongside Diesel's own.

Barneys New York Hosting Limited Edition J Brand x Rob Pruitt Collaboration

J Brand x Rob Pruitt "620 mid-rise skinny" in black/grey released hem and red/purple, blue/green dégradé colorways

When art and fashion collide it is a glorious thing and when that collision occurs with denim, it is truly magnificent.

Contrary to what your eyes are telling you, the image above is not an illusion created by photoshop. It is actually a limited edition collaboration between artist Rob Pruitt and J Brand Jeans available exclusively at Barneys New York. At this point you're probably viewing the photo again trying to discern if I'm pulling your leg. I assure you it's real. Pruitt has perfected the art of gradient painting and is widely known for the technique.

Take a Glimpse Inside DSquared2's New US Flagship

The first time I'd ever walked into a DSquared2 boutique was in Capri three years ago. Before then I hadn't even known the brand had standalone stores. The small boutique was unassuming and nestled comfortably on a small walking path in an area full of familiar luxury brands. When I first heard that DSquared2 was opening it's very first US flagship in Beverly Hills on Rodeo Drive, my first thought was why there? Why not New York (yeah, I'm biased). Then I thought back to my time in Capri where the rich fluttered in and out of stores reveling in their conspicuous consumption and I thought, Rodeo Drive is perfect.

“After nearly 20 years of starting Dsquared2, we are so proud to bring our brand and our entire store concept offering all of our collections to US customers. It’s been a long held dream of ours to have a retail presence here, and this Los Angeles store represents a new chapter and an energetic retail future for our brand.”

-Dan and Dean Caten

The 4500 square foot store will house their entire collection of apparel and accessories in a setting that incorporates Canadian forest motifs in a modern industrial interior.

One must see to believe, but pictures will have to do.

Denim is Not Dead

While I perused the booths at MAGIC, Project, Liberty and the countless other fashion tradeshows that were going on in Vegas last week, reports were circulating in the media that jeans are on the decline. As I read through them, I became hyperaware of the myriad of people in some form of denim or the infinite amount of established and up-and-coming denim brands that were showing at almost all of the shows. So what am I to think with so much contradictary information? Well...to put it bluntly, I think denim naysayers are nuts!

If denim was going out of fashion would we have red carpet runway like this...

A Moleskine Store is Coming Near You...Hopefully

Moleskine, notebooks, popup shop
Moleskine Pop up shop at the Old Street Underground

If you haven't tried a Moleskine notebook yet, you do not know what your missing. I don't know what it is about Moleskine. Seriously, what it is that makes them so appealing? Do you know? All I know is ever since I was gifted one a few years ago, I haven't been able to keep my notes in anything else.

Normally you'd have to go to a specialty store like Barnes & Nobles to purchase one, but Moleskine is continuing it's expansion of standalone stores. Yes! That means more product, more options and more innovation. This expansion is mostly happening in Europe, although there were shops opened in Soho as well as Short Hills Mall in New Jersey.

If your lucky enough to live near one you'll notice that the store design mimics the design style of the notebooks with the classic black rectangle reimagined as an open platform. An experience table allows visitors to interact with different tools to find the notebook which suits them best and a Stamp Station gives them access to a variety of location-specific stamps they can use to customize their Moleskine objects and record travel memories.

Scroll down to see more images from the shop.

Update: Moleskine opened their first pop up shop in London at the Old Street Underground which was transformed into a creative hub by Appear Here, the largest online marketplace for retail space.

Summer's not over yet and there are a few more music festivals to go.

The two year old Budweiser Made in America music fest is at the tail end of the season running from August 30th-31st. American Eagle Outfitters has signed on as the official fashion partner which of course means a collection in honor of the festivities.

A Festival Shortie, Sky High rises, something called Denim X and heritage plaids are just a few of the pieces being offered this fall as well as a Budweiser Made In America t-shirt for both men and women (above) proceeds of which will be donated to the United Way.

The festival will occur simultaneously coast to coast in Grand Park Los Angeles and Ben Franklin Parkway Philadephia with a lineup curated by Jay Z. Kanye West will headline in both cities starting with Philadelphia along with performances from Pharrell and Kings of Leon, and will then headline the final night in Los Angeles with Iggy Azalea, Imagine Dragons and Rita Ora.

Spanx Jeans are a Real Thing!

Shapewear powerhouse Spanx has entered the denim market with a line of jeans based off of their popular slimming technology. To say that this is an unusual move for a company that specializes in innerwear goes without saying, but maybe it makes more sense than you think.

In an interview aired on Good Morning America, founder Sara Blakely described her inspiration to launch a denim line as stemming from her frustration in finding a good pair of jeans -particularly after having a baby where she states "things don't exactly go back to the same place". She describes Spanx jeans as being woven from three yarns -two stretch yarns and one regular (cotton) yarn as opposed to the one stretch, one regular yarn combination used in traditional jeans. (Actually, traditional jeans are 100% cotton, but who's counting). This is meant to "hold you in more" and provide better recovery.

Current/Elliott Channels French Girl Style With Charlotte Gainsbourg Capsule Collection

Current Elliott, Charlotte Gainsbourg, jeans, shop, french girl style
Charlotte Gainsbourg modeling her capsule collection for Current/Elliott

It's been a while since I've heard any exciting news about Current/Elliott. At one point the only time I read about the two founders Emily and Meritt was when they were doing style features on WhoWhatWear. I'm not implying that a brand always has to be creating buzz, but a few years ago you couldn't browse a fashion magazine or website without reading about them.

When I heard that Current/Elliot was launching a capsule collection with French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg my first reaction was to run to their website to see if it was still up. Much to my surprise, not only does it still exist, it was full of sartorial goodies. Clearly I've been out of the loop and certainly they have been on their game because "dressing like a French girl" has been the title of more than one fashion blog.

Charlotte's simplisticly raw but chic style is most certainly French and her collection is a mirror image of her personal tastes. Gray slim-straight jeans and leather hot pants are bottomweight standouts while tops are mostly oversized shirts and shrunken jackets.

What I find interesting is that if you dissect the collection into two separate trends, the first would be rock girl chic and consists of leather jackets, hot pants and gray jeans. The second trend would be 90's Gap girl with striped sweaters, oversized tees and button-downs. Both trends combined create a collection that is just shy of androgynous with a hint, just a whiff, of sex appeal.

Current/Elliott is no stranger to high end designer collaborations having partnered with Mary Katrantzou and Diane von Furstenberg in the past. This latest partnership, however, will be the first with a celebrity.

To obtain Ms Gainsbourg's now imitable style you'll have to shell out $128 for a t-shirt on the low end and $2,268 for a leather trench coat on the higher end, but I'm sure her fans won't mind the steep price.

Scroll down to see the rest of the collection. What do you think? Would you wear it?
