Need Easy Breezy Custom Nail Wraps? There's an App for That!

Nailsnaps, denimhunt, itunes, app store
I call this design "Shameless Plug" (via Nailsnaps)

I would like to share a little known fact about myself -I'm an app junkie. I spend more time surfing the app stores on iTunes and Chrome than I do surfing the web. Why? Because it's amazing to see what developers are coming up with and also because I often find gems like Nailsnaps. I stumbled across Nailsnaps yesterday while looking for a new email managerment app (go figure) and it is an anayyyzing idea.

Can You Create Sound with Denim?

Candiani denim symphonie
The Candiani Denim Symphonie Loom on Stage

Can color produce sound? Can we communicate through smell? If a tree falls in the forest etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. Philosophers and scientists have been trying to answer those questions for generations, but it took a denim manufacturer to create sound with jeans...sort of.

Albert Candiani of Candiani Denim Mills is also a music producer and artist. With his metaphysically titled band Army of the Universe, Candiani began an electro-textile-sound project called The Candiani Denim Symphonie which combines the denim manufacturing process with the creation of music. To bring it down to earth a bit, the band composes music around the sound of a shuttle loom weaving denim. Not a pre-recorded sound either, but a real live loom which they bring to their performances. Talk about authenticity!

I'm going to disconnect from you at this moment as words cannot convey what the eyes must see. That was my attempt at being philosophical. Translation: click on the picture above to see the performance.

Wear it Till You Smell it for Cult of Individuality's Future Vintage Project

Of all the contest I've heard of this year, this one will definitely strike a chord with those who wear jeans. Cult of Individuality is hosting it's first Future Vintage Project by challenging fans to wear a pair of raw denim Cult jeans as often as possible from now through April 30th. Easy right? Especially if you already own a pair of Cult jeans, because you're probably wearing them all the time anyway, but there's a catch. Not only do you have to wear the jeans as often as possible, but you can't wash them....at all. That's seven whole months of unwashed jeans. Stinky.

The point is to let the jeans create the wear and whiskering that comes naturally with a well worn-in pair. The way it used to be done before we started paying a hundred dollars a pop for brands to do it for us.

#InspoSeries Death of Denim at NYFW?

It's hard not to find humor in this whole idea that denim is dying (see Denim is Not Dead). It becomes even more ridiculous when Kylie Jenner wears two different voluminous denim tunics, that are gorgeous I might add, and becomes the biggest topic off the runway this season.

From NY Times Fashion to fashion week enthusiasts, instagram feeds are chock full of denim street style. My favorites, Kylie's tunic, of course, and an amazing wrap skirt that mimics tying a denim shirt around the waist.

Scroll down to see some of the amazing looks you'll find under the #NYFW hashtag.

Seriously, does it look like denim is dying to you?

It's a Superga X [INSERT NAME HERE] Shoe Off! Three "It" Girls, One Shoe. Who's Collab is the Best?

SUPERGA, the man repeller, leandre medine, the blonde salad, chiara ferragni, suki waterhouse, sneakers, 2014

Superga is an "It" sneaker known for collaborating with "It" girls. Chiara Ferragni, better known as The Blonde Salad and Leandre Medine always known as The Man Repeller, are just two of fashion's biggest influencers who have capsule collections with the brand.

Last month Superga announced that their latest collaboration will be with Spring/Summer 2014 campaign model Suki Waterhouse. Along with the announcement came photos of heart-adorned flatforms that reflect Suki's uptown bohemian, slightly saccharine, style. The flatforms come in three colorways, sugary pink, baby blue and a more serious red/navy combo that will hit stores in August of this year.

With this latest campaign comes an interesting question that I'm surprised no one has asked before. Here we have three "It" girls, from three different "It" cities, that have designed three widely different capsule collections with an "It" brand. Suki's collection may not have dropped yet, but this calls, no screams, for a "shoe off".

Flip through the slideshow below and let us know, who do you think has the best Superga X "It" girl collab.

QOTD? Would You Buy This Sneaker?

Buscemi, Sneaker head, shoes, sneakers, luxury, diddy

This is the Buscemi.

Take a good long look at it.

Finished.

Okay.

Now let me tell you little more about it. Former stockbroker Jon Buscemi, creator of the sneaker (obvi), along with his partners purposely limited production to create exclusivity along the lines of Hermes. Add in the requisite celebrity endorsement and the sneaker can't stay on the shelves due to high demand and waitlists. This hard to find sneaker has now been profiled in business publications like the Wall Street Journal and Inc Magazine as a case study in genius marketing.

Look at this sneaker again. It's pretty isn't it?

It cost $800.

Worth it?

Jeans That Smell Like Fruit are a REAL Thing!

Fragrance Jeans, Salsa, scent, perfume, denim, jeans
Salsa's Fragrance Jeans in Lemon, Strawberry and Orange

Portuguese retailer Salsa has launched a line of jeans called Fragrance Jeans. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that with a name like that, little explanation is needed to explain the pull. As for myself, I can't figure out if this is the next big thing or innovation run amok.

Salsa claims to have created an innovative technology that embeds fruity smelling microcapsules into denim that release a specific scent over time. They don't specify how much time or how many washes it takes before the scent wears off, but they calculate that if you wash your jeans every three days (which I don't) the scent would last almost three months. If you round it out to laundering twice a week over three months, than that's roughly 24 washes.

These Jeans Were Distressed by Wild Animals. No, Seriously?

Zoo Jeans, B1, T1, L1, L2
Can you guess which animal distressed which jean? Answers after the jump...

Why spend time distressing, ripping, tearing and abrading jeans when you can get wild animals to do it for you. That is not a rhetorical question and this is not a joke if you can believe it.

Japanese brand, Zoo Jeans, lives up to its name and burgeoning reputation by making their jeans from denim that has been attacked by lions, tigers and bears. Not sure if those three animals were chosen for their ferocity and ability to tear fabric, but Wizard of Oz puns never die.

The zookeepers at the Kamine Zoo in Hitachi City take the animals' favorite toys like tires and balls, wrap them in denim fabric and toss them back into their pens. The animals go to town on the objects -gnawing and tearing at the covering obstructing their playthings. What's left is recovered and used to make the jeans. I can't believe this is a real thing.

In all seriousness, the jeans are an effort by the Mineko Club to raise money for the animals and were auctioned off on Yahoo Japan. All proceeds, if any, go back to the zoo and the World Wildlife Fund.

Would you wear jea...you know what? Forget I almost asked that.

Scroll down to see video of the animals "making" the jeans.

Kat Weltch Covers VH1 VIP Thursdays

VH1 Upfronts, Jez Perez, Disney, Man-e Jay, Candidly Nicole, Viacom
From Right to Left: Guy Jackson, Man-e Jay, Kat Weltch (me), Jes Pe' rez

A few days ago I was privileged to attend the first ever VH1 VIP Thursdays, an event held to showcase the VH1 Upfronts to digital producers, press and influencers. VH1 staffers kicked off the event by introducing themselves to the audience one by one before showing a really entertaining presentation featuring snippets of the new shows coming to VH1.

Each preview was unique and hilarious. The entire theatre was laughing like crazy at the new comedies and viewers are sure to have the same reaction when they drop later this year. One in particular that is sure to be a hit with the fashion set was Candidly Nicole. Candidly Nicole is Nicole Richie's latest reality show and covers what goes on in her daily life. There were a ton of laugh out loud moments and we even got to see a cameo of the great Lionel Richie! Another show chronicled naked people meeting and falling in love and the new season of LeAnn and Eddie set to premiere July 17th is going to be juicy.

Esquire TV's Lucky Bastards Recap

Rocco Caffiarelli Bpd washouse bill curtain lucky bastards esquire network
"Lucky Bastard" Rocco Cafferelli meets with BPD Washhouse to discuss his new denim line

Confession, I've never watched an episode of Esquire Network's Lucky Bastards. If it wasn't for my friend Bill Curtain of BPD Washhouse being featured in one of the storylines this episode, I probably wouldn't have even been aware of it. No disrespect to Esquire, it's just, I'm a woman, so why would I. Plus, I haven't been watching much reality tv lately anyway. Be that as it may, after last night's episode, I was reminded of how fun it can be to watch some of these reality soap operas. Especially when you've got a bunch of guys acting like a bunch of, well, guys and even if some most of the situations seem a bit contrived.

Below are some of the highlights from last night and believe me, you reaaally want to read this...
