Hello Modcloth! Meet DenimHunt

It's been a while since I've created a set on Polyvore so when Modcloth approached me about creating a set around their Shoreline Memories cotton dresses for their "Uniquely You" campaign I couldn't resist.

It's a cute cotton dress don't you think? I love the  windowpane plaid and sunny yellow ribbon. It exudes a classic charm. I decided to play off that charm but add some whimsical fun shown particulary in accessories like panda flats and a hummingbird watch.

What do you think?

I can't wait to see the other interpretations.

#ResolutionsSuck Create a New Year's Hashtag Instead

Hashtag, #winning2014, hashtag culture, denimhunt

So like most people this time of year, I've been thinking about the New Year and what my expectations are for myself. These don't normally translate into resolutions. I stopped doing those years ago. I mean, why declare something that you're just going to forget a week later anyway. With that said, I do come up with a generalized list of things I'd like to accomplish for the upcoming year. Past lists have included things like, finish 40 credits, hit a 7 minute/mile pace, do more public speaking, etc.

For 2013, I noticed that I was immersing myself more than ever in hashtag culture. When I say hashtag culture, I'm referring to the use of hashtagged words or phrases as a form of shorthand outside of it's functional use as a way to organize and search messages on social media. Hashtagging has become more than shorthand for me. It has become almost exclusively a way to add a subconscious to my messages. For example, "Hey, haven't seen you in like forever. Let's get together for dinner this week. #missyou". Adding hashtags to my social media blurbs, emails or even a post-it has just become how I express myself. More than once I almost did the hashtag fingers hilariously demonstrated by Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (See below). I'm not ashamed to say I've had to catch myself more than once almost slapping my peace signs together. #dork

We're Obsessed: Skitch App for iPhone and iPad

So every once in a while, usually when I'm bored, I'll browse the App store just to see what's new. I find a lot of new apps that way. Some I keep, some I discard, some I use for awhile just to forget about later and others turn into true lifestyle game changers. Those are rare and I can only name a few that have made it into this category.

Who Knew USB Drives Could Be So Fashionable...

Market Month Week is over and now I can get to the other good stuff. Lookbooks and editorials!

But first I have to give an honorable mention to the brands that choose to give lookbooks in the form of a USB drive as opposed to emailing a pdf. Don't get me wrong. Pdfs are cool and I prefer them over a hard book (too much scanning), but they don't leave the impression that a cleverly branded USB does.

First a USB is easy to track. It's sitting on my desk so I know how many lookbooks I am going to cover as opposed to having it get lost in a sea of folders on my harddrive. Then there's the reusable factor. Although not as environmentally friendly as a pdf, I rarely ever throw away a USB. And the more clever the design, the more likely I am to reuse it. Over the years, I've gotten some really cool ones like bracelets with a hidden USB in the band and of course, the ones on display above. The little shopping bag from American Eagle is too cute for words. I've even give them away to friends after I'm done. When you think about it, it's pretty genious because the reusable factor means more exposure for brand logos.

What do you think? Do you want one?

2 Top Models, 1 Box, REPLAY Surprises FC Barcelona Players

I like Replay. I always make it a point to shop there when I go to Europe. I'm looking forward to the day they expand their presence in the US, but then, it's cool wearing something that other people have to travel to get. That doesn't have anything to do with the video. I just wanted to share.

When FC Barcelona won the world cup in 2009, I happened to be in Barcelona on business. My taxi was stuck behind a celebratory parade that seemed to attract the entire city. Even helicopters were flying overhead. I didn't follow soccer football at the time and had no idea what was going on, but that was my first glimpse into the madness of the game and it's fans. Another thing that has nothing to do with the video. Just in the mood for sharing.

Replay Product Developer, Stefano Pigazzo with the help of top models Isabeli Fontana and Ana Beatriz Barras, both of Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated fame, decided to surprise the entire FC Barcelona team with suits from the brand. They documented the surprise in a really cute video. I thought it would be fun to share.

What do you think the guys were more happy to see, the suits or the girls? I guess that's a no brainer.

Too bad we didn't get to see them wearing the suits. I'm curious about what's inside the bag.

Gummy Bear Knuckle Rings!

Romeingpanda, accessories, jewelry, gummy bears

First let me give a big thank you to the RedLight PR team who thought to have vegan nail color brand Ginger + Liz set up a mini nailbar in the showroom. Not only did they have this fantastic pale blue color, but the polish dried as fast as the techs put it on. (Leave it to me to still ruin a few nails anyway. I am so bad with manicures *sigh*). Otherwise, I would not have dared taking pictures of rings on my fingers. Nail color. It's a beautiful thing.

Gummy bear jewelry by quirky accessories company Romeingpanda is feeding into the unusual nostalgia streak I'm experiencing today (see Peanuts, Mickey and Rainbow Goodness). Who would've thought to replicate a beloved iconic candy and put it on jewelry! Even in the pictures they look so authentically edible that I squeezed a few until I was told they weren't real. Good thing too. A sniff and lick were next. #nokidding

The gummy rings came in single or multifingered versions. I kept thinking of the three-fingered ring (above) as a gummy knuckle ring. It kind of looks like that, no? Imagine getting into an unfortunate situation where you have to give a gummy knockout. The person wakes up with gummies and angels twirling around his head, shakes it off, and becomes a whole new gummy good guy. It would be like your own version of the Care Bear Stare. Yeah, I'm totally getting carried away.

Romingpanda also managed to make gummy bears look chic. Don't believe me? Scroll down. You'll see gold or silver-toned gummy bears encased in a clear resin akin to fossilized amber. Perfect for those like me who wouldn't mind making a nostalgic statement, but a little more quietly.

Peanuts, Mickey and Rainbow Goodness

WeLoveFine 80s graphic clothing tees

I've never been one for nostalgia. I think throwbacks are cool and I appreciate homages to the past, but I tend to keep my eyes firmly trained on the future. Maybe it comes from my days as a Trend Forecaster.

When I was first introduced to custom T-shirt company WeLoveFine, I have to admit, I wasn't too impressed. I didn't understand at the time what the company was about. Be that as it may, in a show of small business solidarity, I dutifully went through the rack to attempt to undo my first impression. Sooo glad I did.

There were some wonderfully nostalgic pieces that made my tummy flutter for saturday morning cartoons and the sunday comics such as the authentically 80's Peanuts croptop (below). As I perused the rack, I found myself wanting to share a bunch of 'Remember whens' with someone..anyone. So I'll share them with you.

Remember when Mickey Mouse cartoons were magical because they were so rare? Remember when you begged your parents for a Rainbow Brite doll for Christmas? Hell, remember Rainbow Brite? Remember when you traced the comic strips in the sunday paper so you could learn how to draw?

Ahh the memories. The future be damned!
