THE JETSETTING JEAN: A Biotech Project Manager and DenimHunt Editor Take On Black Orchid by Julien Jarmoune

Today is a good day. Today I get to talk about one of my favorite pairs of jeans, Black Orchid by Julien Jarmoune. Don't get me wrong. I have lots of faves, but Black Orchid Denim is definitely in my top 5. Why? Because they are soooo comfortable. Like pajama comfortable. Like wearing a cloud comfortable. Like I can't stop touching myself comfortable. Head. Out. Gutter. I actually own a pair of indigo mid-rise Black Orchid Black Jewel Jeggings, similar to these (click here), which I wear wayyy too much. So obviously, this particular edition of The Jetsetting Jean was one of my favorites.

For this edition, Vanessa, a The Jetsetting Jean veteran (see THE JETSETTING JEAN: One Pair of Jeans, Three Different Women, Infinite Style) and myself wore a pair of Black Orchid Black Jewel mid-rise jeggings in pale yellow. It may be difficult to imagine having enough versatility with a pair of jeans this color but that's not true. Check out how Vanessa and I went for dressed up and dressed down looks in the same pair of jeans.  By the way, Vanessa thought they felt amazing too.

See the rest of the pics after the jump....

THE JETSETTING JEAN: A Finance VP, RN and IT Tech Style Lucky Brand Jeans' "Ginger" Skinny

THE JETSETTING JEAN:

Premium denim has been a force in fashion for over a decade now, but there's still a certain demographic that is largely left out of enjoying the benefits of a pair of great fitting jeans... plus-sized women (and men I suppose). I can think of few premium brands that cater to curvy girls, and with the most frequently worn size being a 14, that's a lot of consumer dollars these companies are passing up. Not to mention the gals whose style prowess we are being kept from seeing. But not today...

Lucky Brand Jeans has launched a plus-sized line for women and we got our hands on a pair of Lucky's "Ginger skinny" with a laser printed floral. Styling them are women from very different walks of life -healthcare, finance and information technology. They all raved at how great the fit was and how it hugged their curves at all the right places. I myself noted how lengthy their gams looked in them.

Scroll below to see how they styled them and visit Lucky's website to get their latest Ginger skinnies

Denim Diaries: How I Wore My David Kahn Shorts

The Jetsetting Jean, David Kahn, best fall shorts
Last week, I visited the showroom of David Kahn for the first time (see Denim on Denim Prints and Colored Metallics at David Kahn for Fall 2013) and was able to view some pretty cool denim prints and finishes. In between the invitation and my actual visit, the peeps at David Kahn sent over a pair of shorts for me to try and I decided to test drive them over the Labor Day weekend.

The first day, I wore them on an early morning walk through Central Park. I kept it simple in a white blouse from Nasty Gal and my new favorite loafers from Modern Vintage (see Get Inspired: Best Fall Flats).
On the second day, I wore them on an outing to Coney Island. I paired them with a floral blazer that I bought this past winter from Lulu's and an embossed shoulder bag from Genuine Leather; two items I don't often get to wear, don't ask me why.

I'm very much into going high/low with my clothing and thought it'd be fun to show you how I wore the shorts and the affordable brands I paired them with.

Let me know what you think?

xoShanna
P.S.
If you're thinking, it's fall and you can't wear shorts, think again. Leather shorts and skirts will be hot this fall. So there's no reason you can't throw seasonally appropriate denim shorts in there too.

THE JETSETTING JEAN: One Pair of Jeans, Three Different Women, Infinite Style

Jetsetting jean, de chemin jeans, shanna mckinnon, stripes, best skinny jeans

This summer after watching Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I had an epiphany. What if I took a pair of jeans, gave them to different women for a week and have them photograph themselves in a look they put together. I dubbed my little social experiment in fashion The Jetsetting Jean. Cool right?

The first thing I discovered from my experiment is you can't ask a fashion conscious professional woman to put together a look in a week. Most took on average three weeks and some even longer. So much for timelines. Fashionably late is not just limited to fashion folk.

The second thing I discovered was that fashion inspiration can come from anyone! Although we like to mimic personal style bloggers and their sometimes off beat styles, it's the day to play looks that have the most staying power. And these women put together some great day to play looks.

With all that said, I introduce you to the first The Jetsetting Jean- "Babette" a pair of laser striped skinnies by new brand de Chemin Jeans that were styled by Vanessa, Aisha and, ahem, myself. I loved how the subtle denim on denim stripes surreptitiously elongated my legs giving them a lot of POW!

Unfortunately, de Chemin is not in shops yet but keep checking their website to see where to purchase.

But enough already! One pair of jeans, three different women, infinite style. See the results after the jump....

UPDATE: de Chemin Jeans are available for purchase at Simply Smashing boutique in Campbell, CA. Keep checking the de Chemin website for stockist updates.

Camera Stalking: UNICEF Next Generation Photo Benefit at Milk Studios

IMG_3727

UNICEF held a photo benefit at Milk Studios this weekend and while attendees admired the beautiful photography and bid on their favorites, we couldn't help but admire that, no matter the occasion, New Yorkers will always find a way to show off some of the best street style in the world.

So of couse I whipped out my trusty, dusty iPhone 5 and did a little photography of my own. From floral medleys on gals and vivid color on guys, we captured the best denim looks of the night.

Camera Stalking: Sportiqe and ESPN "Sport's Heaven Collection" Launch at Bloomingdales

IMG_3432

Sports, fashion and music came together for a night of fun as fashion tee line Sportiqe teamed up with ESPN to launch a new t-shirt collection called "Sport's Heaven". The launch was held at Bloomingdales and featured a pretty extensive collection of t-shirts that either represented different sports or had ESPN logos that looked as if they were dug up from their archives. Sportiqe is known for the super soft texture of their cotton-blend tees, but the mixed fibers also had an added effect of making some of the shirts look vintage.

To add to the night, a band called 2AM Club performed several of their songs and can I just say, they were Ah! May! Zing! I'd never heard of the group before and am usually slow to like live bands, but with 2AM Club's catchy tunes and energetic live performance, it was hard, really hard, to stand still. Look them up. They're awesome.

Back to the collab. The tees retail for a wallet-friendly $35 and up and are available at the Lexington Ave Bloomingdales' on the Metro level if you're in the New York City area.

Camera Stalking With The Fashion Brewery; Diesel + Edun Africa House @ Coachella

Coachella has come and gone, but we'll always have the pictures.

West-coast-based The Fashion Brewery (who will also be doing some left coast reporting for us, yayyy) attended the Diesel + Edun Studio Africa event at Coachella. Diesel, who has partnered with Ugandan clothing line Edun for a capsule collection, opened an Africa House at Coachella which highlighted the brand's initiative (read more on The Fashion Brewery).

In the middle of browsing the showroom/exhibit they were able to capture some fabulous pics of eventgoers. Flipping through it, you're certain to get some Spring/Summer outfit inspo. I know I did.

Camera Stalking: The Magnum Ice Cream "As Good As Gold" Party With the $1.5 Million Zac Posen Dress

IMG_3318
(Zac Posen)

Last night Magnum Ice Cream took over Gotham Hall, transforming the circular space into an opulent viewing room with a magnificent gold vault in the center. Inside the vault were stacks of Magnum Gold Ice Cream with security posted on either side looking as fearsome as the Secret Service.

The event kicked off the Tribeca Film Festival while also marking the launch of Magnum Gold Ice Cream with a short film directed by Emmy Award winning director Jon Cassar titled As Good As Gold and starring Joe Manganiello, Zac Posen and Caroline Correa. However, the real star of the film (and the night) was the $1.5 million 24k gold couture gown designed by Posen and inspired by the decadent gold ice cream bar.

The gown was hand embroidered using over 10,000 24k gold sequins with Caroline Correa, who donned it for the evening, exclaiming that it made her feel like a princess. Indeed standing next to the lovely Caroline I felt as if I were one of her fawning subjects (see below). It truly is a gorgeous gown. Also in attendance were celebrity chef Bobby Flay as well as supermodel Crystal Renn who looked amazing in her own Zac Posen.

Between the film, the celebs, and the fashion folk it was a veritable iPhone feast and I happily clicked away, while gorging myself on the Magnum Gold Ice Cream bar which was delish.

Camera Stalking: Scotch & Soda NYC Store Opening

IMG_2951

Camera Stalking (or asking people to pose for my iPhone camera) is one of my favorite things. You just can't beat streetstyle for inspiration. Last night my new fave brand Scotch & Soda had an event to mark the opening of their Union Square store and I loved how all the staff was head to toe in the brand. I tell you what, Scotch & Soda knows their way around a print. It was a packed house to say the least, but I got some pretty good shots and some pretty good cocktails. Yummy. Click through and enjoy.

Camera Stalking: Larry Clark Stuff Exhibition @ Milk Studios

LarryClarkeStuff1

Milk Gallery at Milk Studios hosted an exhibition last night called Larry Clark Stuff featuring, literally, the stuff of indie film director Larry Clark. If you've ever watched a Larry Clark film (Kids, check) than you can get an idea of what kind of stuff he has.

The walls were lined with Fuct t-shirts and collectible skateboards that date all the way back to the 1980s. Movie posters from his films took center stage along with many unabashedly NSFW graphic photos. Of course, at an event like this, the hipsters were out in force...and so was our camera.

Click on the images for a closer look at who we chose to stalk.

Gender Reversal: These two ladies were tame in their matching wide-leg trousers and classic pink shells. On the flip side, this guy went all out with a pair of pink jeans complete with the best accessory a guy can get. His buddy in a matching pink shirt.
